After finishing 12th in the 200 medley relay on the opening night of the 2024 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, the No.18 Florida State men’s swimming and diving team added another All-American performance on Thursday at the IU Natatorium.
The team of Peter Varjasi, Mason Herbet, Max Wilson and Jokubas Keblys finished 12th in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:16.09. FSU claimed the 12th All-American honor in the race in program history and highest finish since 2019.
“It was another great relay tonight,” FSU coach Neal Studd said. “It was solid all the way through today. Tomorrow is a good day for us, so we’ll be looking to add more points on Friday.”
In prelims, Wilson contributed his best time in the 200 IM, touching at 1:43.70 in 32nd place, just ahead of Herbet (1:43.78) in 33rd.
Wilson moved up one spot and now ranks fourth in FSU history.
Yordan Yanchev competed in the 500 free (4:18.30), finishing 36th and Darwin Nolasco made his NCAA debut on 1-meter, scoring 296.10 for 35th place.
“Darwin had some bright spots today,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “He’ll take that and build off of it for platform on Saturday.”
Prelims on Friday will start at 10 a.m. and will feature the 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back. David Vargas will make his NCAA start on 3-meter at 12 p.m.
The top 16 in each swimming event will advance to finals at 6 p.m. The top eight divers will compete at finals and those that finish ninth through 16 will compete in the consolation heat at 5:15 p.m. FSU will compete in the 400 medley relay to close Friday.
The Seminoles are in 19th place with 20 points.
