FSU women's hoops dominates Wake 97-68

The No. 25/24 Florida State women’s basketball team (18-4, 8-2 ACC) extended its win streak to five in a dominant 97-68 win over Wake Forest (8-14, 1-10 ACC) Sunday night at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.

Celebrating the annual ‘Paint-it-Pink’ night, the Seminoles improved to 12-0 at the Tucker Center this season.

Ta’Niya Latson was one of three players to score above 20 points, finishing the night with 25 and five assists. Latson also moved into second place in FSU history in free throws made at 457 after a perfect 8-of-8 showing at the line.

O’Mariah Gordon scored 22 points, while junior Sydney Bowles added 20, a season high.

Makayla Timpson tallied 12 points and 14 rebounds, securing her 13th double-double on the season, leading the ACC. She has 44 for her career.

Florida State took control of the game early after Bowles scored six straight, leading her team to a 13-0 run, and a 27-13 lead at the end of the first quarter. The starters kept rolling, as Latson, Gordon and Bowles each produced five or more points in the second quarter to give FSU a 20-point lead, 51-31, at the half.

Florida State extended its lead to 26 points heading into the fourth quarter, Bowles hitting two three pointers in the third to maintain the momentum. The Noles finished the game with 13 three-point shots made, five by Bowles.

A 24-point fourth quarter capped the dominant performance which included eight scorers for the Seminoles, closing out the game leading from start to finish.

Florida State will go on the road to face Virginia (12-11, 4-7 ACC) on Thursday in Charlottesville at 7 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
