FSU sports information:
The Florida State women’s tennis team (8-1) defeated both Air Force (4-6) and Florida A&M (0-6) Sunday afternoon at the FSU Indoor Tennis Courts. The Seminoles won both matches 4-0 and extended their active winning streak to six straight matches.
Match one began with FSU securing a quick doubles win courtesy of Maria Juliana Parra Romero and Eva Shaw by a score of 6-1 over Nadia Kojonroj and Arianna Van Houwelin of Air Force. The doubles point was clinched for the Noles by Tina Li and Maelie Monfils defeating Sofia Mavor and Shivaani Selvan of Air Force 6-3 on Court 3.
Parra Romero dominated from Court 3 during singles, defeating Van Houwelin in straight-sets 6-1, 6-0. On Court 4 Laura Putz earned herself a straight-sets victory 6-3, 6-0 over Mavor, winning the final nine games of the match. The Seminoles had match points on Courts 1, 5, and 6 before Maelie Monfils put the match away from Court 5, defeating Maya Michalski 7-5, 6-2.
FSU continued right where they left off from the first match. Putz and Cade Cricchio defeated Susan Salinas and Larissa Silva of Florida A&M 6-1 on Court 3. Shaw and Bissett followed suit defeating Sara Rakim and Genesis Whitelock of Florida A&M 6-1 on Court 1 to capture the doubles point for FSU. Court 2 was played through earning Mary Boyce Deatherage and Monfils a 6-3 victory over Reagan Harris and Veronica Rodriguez of Florida A&M.
Florida State earned its first singles point via retirement from Court 2. Tina Li defeated Silva 6-1, 6-0 to give FSU a 3-0 lead. The match was clinched on Court 4 with Monfils winning a second-set tiebreaker and taking the match 6-1, 7-6 (1).
Parra Romero continues to heat up, winning her last three matches all by way of straight-sets victories. No. 119 Deatherage improved her record to 7-0 in singles this spring, while Monfils improved to 7-2.
Florida State travels to Charleston, S.C., next week for a dual with Charleston Southern on Saturday, at 11 a.m.
