FSU women's tennis routs Charleston Southern

The Florida State women’s tennis team (9-1) defeated Charleston Southern (4-3) 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Gary Clark Banks Sr. Tennis Center in Charleston, South Carolina.

Saturday began with doubles victories on both Courts 2 and 3 for the Noles. Maelie Monfils and Tina Li won their third match of the season together defeating Brenda Yoris and Emmie Moore 6-2. FSU captured the doubles point on Court 3 with the first-time pairing of Cade Cricchio and Maria Juliana Parra Romero defeating Kassandra Di Staulo and Marina Skegro 6-1. Florida State has won the doubles point in all 10 matches they have played this season.

No. 125 Mary Boyce Deatherage earned FSU’s first singles point early on Court 2, defeating Noa Boyd 6-1, 6-2. On Court 5 Li earned a straight-sets victory defeating Carle Botha 6-3, 6-2. Li trailed the opening set 2-3 and went on to win 10 of the next 12 games. Laura Putz clinched the match for FSU defeating Amila Jusufbegovic 7-5, 6-1 on Court 4. With singles being played through, on Courts 1, 3, and 6 the Noles went to three sets earning victories on Courts 1 and 5. Monfils rallied back after being down a set to win the match, defeating Di Staulo 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 on Court 5. Millie Bissett earned his first Court 1 victory of the season defeating Moore 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

The Seminoles have now extended their winning streak to seven consecutive matches, tied for third all-time in the program's history and their longest since 2021. Deatherage improved to 13-1 this season and has won 11 consecutive singles matches, placing her top 20 all-time in school history. Parra Ramero continues to shine on the doubles court, winning her ninth consecutive match in a row.

Florida State begins ACC play on the road next weekend. The Seminoles travel to Boston College for a match beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and will wrap up their opening conference weekend with a match at Syracuse on Sunday at 11 a.m.
