Anyone else notice how more food workers are wearing plastic gloves (seems like a good thing), but then they wear them everywhere? They handle food, open drawers, go into the fridge or oven, touch their shirts, wipe off the counters, then repeat. All with the same pair of gloves. Not sure they get the concept.

Definitely one downside to low unemployment. There are idiots working now that would have no chance at getting a job under normal circumstances. Makes you wonder what sort of knuckleheads still can't find work.

Yea, you do realize they wear them not to protect you but to protect themselves.

Huh? Protect themselves from....?

a Health inspector told me once they don't recommend rubber (latex) gloves, because food handlers become complacent with them, and do as OP said and wear them for all tasks- defeating the purpose.

They recommended these clear, light plastic kind, that were meant for about 5 minutes of use, and then almost "forced" you to change to a new pair. Created a habit of changing gloves often. That, or no gloves at all and frequent hand washing.

also notice how the dental hygienist wears gloves, then reaches up to adjust the light.... Some of them cover it with a new piece of plastic...

I've also been told the gloves are to protect the workers. Some type of skin condition or something.

Golden Corral?

I also wear my gloves to the bathroom...I hate changing those things out all the time.

So a man goes to eat at a fancy restaurant. He's never been there before and is excited for a nice meal. The very first thing he does when he sits down is accidentally knock his spoon onto the floor with his elbow. To his surprise a waiter promptly picks up the dirty spoon and gives him a clean one right out of his shirt pocket.
"Wow, you guys all carry spoons in your pocket?" he asked.
"Well sure." the waiter replies. "We had an efficiency consultant in last week and he told us we could increase over all productivity by 3.5% by carrying fresh spoons in our pockets so now we all do it."
"Wow that's impressive," the man says. "By the way, I should let you know that you have a piece of string hanging out of your fly."
"Oh we all do!" the waiter says. "The consultant said we were wasting a lot of time washing our hands so he told us to tie this piece of string to ourselves. So when I need to go, I just use the string. Since I never actually touch myself, there's no need to wash my hands!"
"I see." Says the man. "So how do you get your penis back into your pants?" he asks.
"Well. I don't know about the other guys, but I use the spoon."

That is the proprietors fault for not training their employees correctly. My employees use so many gloves that the “glove bill” pisses me off at times.

WTH would food people need protecting from?

You ever filet 30 whole fish or chop a 50lb bag of onions? No one would want to be around you afterward if you didn’t wear gloves.

Yes, and it's nasty. Cafeteria at work has a wok station and the dude was sticking his hand in the trash can to smash the trash down, then he jumped right back on the wok line.

Made me realize that's probably standard procedure behind the scenes too.

It's why we have immune systems people...

I buy rubber gloves at Sam's club and use them when preparing food at home. especially when cooking for guests. My wife and I use 3 or 4 pair each when cooking.

Was eating at a bbq spot that has an open kitchen design with bar in front of it, guy assembling sandwiches reached into the trash with his gloves and went right back to assembling sandwiches.

I stopped eating.
