My 15 YO son would like to take on cutting a few of our neighborhood yards here in the Tallahassee area. Most of the yards are 1/4 to 1/2 acre. What would you guys consider a fair rate (he's a kid, not a big yard service) for a yard that size if he mowed it every week? What about if he just did it on an as needed basis when you were out of town?

Thanks in advance for the help with the market survey!

Just cutting the grass or weed eating and edging too?

We have a 1/3 acre, our neighborhood kid charges $35 for a mow, edge, weed eat, and blow (don't go there).

He doesn't do a great job, but he is a good kid and it's a fair price.

I pay my professional $35 for the same size lawn. That includes edging and blowing off the driveway and porches.

I pay $65/mo for ~.4 acre, a fair amount of which is playground area or plant beds.
They mow, weed eat, edge, and blow twice a month for 8 months, once a month Nov-Feb.

Been over a decade since I paid kids to mow for me.
Those jokers stole my Xbox.
I got their (literally) roach infested Xbox back, but I lost my NCAA dynasty, wherein I had just recruited a RB with 98 speed, 99 acceleration and 98 agility.
That hurt.

I assume he has his (or your) lawn equipment? I would figure; to make it worth his time 12-15 an hour. Say 2 hours to do 1/4 acre 3 to do half assuming he has riding mower of some kind. Needs to include blowing and trimming. Price would need to be cheaper than professionals in your area. If he is using owners equipment; price needs to be reduced to say 9-11 an hour and estimated based on what they have.

And if he is using your equipment, you need a 15 percent maintenance kickback! At least.

One time jobs need to be looked at based on how overgrown. I would expect most times the yard is a mess and requires more time.

Thanks guys. He is going to use our equipment at first (I'm investing in him learning some good work habits) but plans to save for a riding mower if the business grows. Weed eating, edging, blowing would be up to the owner.

Sounds like $25 to $40 is fair, depending on the yard and extra services.
