We are going over to Greece for 10 days in August, and we are debating if we should do a cruise or island hop. Any suggestions?

Hoping this thread produces some suggestions & discussion; we're considering a trip to island hop there

Cruise...no contest in my opinion. Nice place to sleep every night, no packing and unpacking, good food on board, plenty of time during the day to see the islands. I would opt for a smallish boat...less than 400 passengers...we've had good luck with Wind Surf.

Island hop. You get to explore more on your own time. The people we meet coming ashore from cruises were jealous that they did not get enough time to enjoy the places they were visiting.

Go to Santorini and relax and take in a few sunsets.

My wife’s family is from one of the small islands in the Sporades. Northern part of the Aegean. Small island called Skopelos. There's no airport, and the only way to get there is by boat from a neighboring island. We'll be there for two weeks this summer.

Part of our attraction to cruises is that they allow you to sample of lot of what's available in a given area. If I've never been to a spread-out destination like the Greek islands, I want to experience as much of it as I can on my first trip. You never know which stop will be your favorite.

I can't imagine wanting to pack and unpack very many times in just 10 days.

When I've done trips like that (where we changed hotels multiple times over the course of a couple of weeks), it hasn't been hard at all. You just don't unpack everything at each stop take out what you need that day, leave the rest in your luggage. Besides, if you're island hopping in a warm climate, you should be able to pack for 2 weeks utilizing just a backpack for your gear.
