Has any other player committed suicide due to a poor performance in high level sports?

Just came across this... 1905 National Championship. Final score: Chicago 2, Michigan 0. The smart money gave the 9-0 Maroons no chance to win. After all, this was Michigan, which hadn't lost a game (55-0-1) in five years. The 10-degree weather on Thanksgiving Day didn't deter a crowd of 27,000, excluding the women allowed in men's dorms to watch the game from the windows. The lone score came late when Wolverine star Dennison Clark attempted to return a punt from near his own goal. Two Maroons tackled him in the end zone. Some 2,500 Chicago students and alumni followed the university band in an impromptu, postgame parade. Clark never forgave himself. In 1932, he ended his life, writing that he hoped it would atone for his mistake 27 years before.

Donnie Moore , pitcher for the California Angels. Gave up the winning homerun against the Red Sox in '86 playoffs. Don't know how long after, but word was he never got over giving up that homerun that cost the Angels a trip to the world series

See what happens when you try to return kicks you shouldn’t?

A high school multi-sport ATH in Jacksonville committee suicide this year in part due to not living up to pressure/expectations. It's not uncommon for sports to play a role in young peoples suicides, unfortunately.

That occured here in Central Pa at a well known HS. Was within last 5 to 7 years. Very sad.

Why would you post this?
It happened in 1905, so I figured enough time has passed to make it less sensitive to readers. Was looking up some championship game history stuff and came across it. Interesting to see how schools like U. of Chicago, Holy Cross, etc were very relevant at one time in big time college sports.

Many other players have died by suicide (“committed” is problematic phrasing) due to poor performance. We have an entire satellite clinic with two full-time psychologists and a psychiatrist at UCLA dedicated to emergency intervention when a player has a career ending injury or major failure.

Why is committed problematic?

Why is committed problematic?
We typically only use “committed” when referring to crimes, sins, and other acts of moral turpitude. Using the word “homicide” as an example:
Compare “he committed homicide” to “he died by homicide.”

Below is the HR that cost Donnie his life. It was the magical 1986 postseason. Boston down to their last out in Game 5-- which would of clinched the ALCS for the angels Henderson smacks a HR to send to the next half inning and then extra innings. Ironically enough Boston had the mets down to their last out in the World Series but we know what happened there. Al Michaels is the play by play--- this may be the best game never mentioned because of the World Series. As Michaels says it's one for the ages. Incredible series and postseason overall. RIP Donnie
