Headed off tomorrow

to our lake house north of Toronto. No cellphone, no internet, no newspaper, no tv, and a landline with an answering machine. I love getting off the grid for a while. There's a spot about a mile from our house where you can get one bar on your phone- maybe. Back to the future for me ;)
Chill time. Nice.

Make sure to set off fireworks past midnight, tell everyone you meet within shouting distance that you are 'Merican, and give out pennies to the kids as you give them a quick history lesson on their neighbor to the south. Oh and scoff at their bacon when ordering out.

This is the best I could do. Are you still hunting Ice T Surviving the game style

That is awesome and something I haven't done in a long time. My kids used to go to a camp where they could not have cell phones etc. for 2 weeks. You know we all need to do that when teenagers come home and tell you not having their cell phone was actually really nice.

Jealous. I miss my life that existed before all of this tech nonsense overtook our lives. “Convenience” and “efficiency” are great, but the 24-7-365 connectivity under which we live has some serious drawbacks. No American workforce has yet completed a 40-year professional career under the current paradigm. Will be interesting to see how that plays out.

If someone can truly (and totally) “leave the grid” for a bit, I say go for it!!

Lead on Lloyd...
I go out with a group of kids most years for a week sans grid. Total pleasure. It takes some time for some of them to realize how good it can be without “the” phone. The first week of August can’t get here soon enough.
The sad part is how quickly, on the ride back home actually, they reenter the tech zone.

What lake are you on? My grandparents had a cottage on Lake Muskoka. I spent almost all of my childhood summers up there (a big environment change for a kid from Florida). This is a great time to be going there. Blackflies are done and the water should be getting "warmer." I'm envious.
