http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/11/09/florida-dad-fires-gun-to-stop-17-year-old-daughters-attempted-kidnappers-cops-say.htm

A father in Florida is being credited with thwarting an attempted kidnapping of his 17-year-old daughter, firing shots as four teen suspects tried to break into his garage, police said.

An investigation revealed that the teens believed the father to be wealthy and had hatched a plot to rob his house and kidnap his daughter, according to the sheriff’s office....

Just another day in Baker. It's such a nonstory, the local fish wrapper's site doesn't even have a story on it.
I will say that I'm not surprised that the victim was perceived as wealthy. There are a lot of farmer millionaires in the northern parts of these counties. You would never guess it by their lifestyle but their bank accounts would make them Locker Room worthy.

The fact that it is a nonstory says to me how bad things have gotten in the area. Things were really cleaned up during the 50's-early 70's. It was a very safe area (Crestview, Baker, Mossy Head, Dorcas, Laurel Hill, etc) through the 80's but I left the day after graduating from HS. Didn't seem like much changed during the 90's when I would pop in from time to time.

I see posts now that make the area seem like a hell hole with the crime. It's a shame to see it from afar.

Is there real crime data to support this? Basing an opinion on "posts" is an awful way to form an opinion.

Do your own research. I was giving my opinion based on almost weekly posts of things being stolen, drugs, etc. I'm allowed to have an opinion also. To me, it seems like a hell hole with the crime.

No need to come off so defensive.

To show there's no hard feelings I made this chart for you using data from the FDLE website (only shows data back to 1995).

Would seem that using posts is probably not the best measure for crime trend, esp considering you're comparing current posts to an era (1950s-70s) where there was no internet, and hence no posts.

I lived in the area for almost two decades. Loved growing up in the area. I also know the history of the area from people who lived there before I was born. I don't need "posts" from the past. Not sure why you are isolating the data to just Baker either.

I noticed poverty rate in both countries fell around the same time (late 90's). Is that when people started selling meth??

Baker isn’t in Baker county. Are they still pumping oil around Baker?

Going to the drag strip in Holt next week. If you don’t hear from me after, it means the bandits got me...
