on my way to Panacea, but it is never open when I have driven past. Is this place any good? Is there a better gyro restaurant in Tally? I see one called Little Athens gyro on Tennessee.

Might have been 4 or 5 years ago but I ate at Captain Pete's when I was in Tally for a golf tournament. The gyro wasn't bad but it was very average compared to other places I've been to. The Spanakopita was not good.

I've only been once so take that for what its worth. It may have been an off day.

I'd have to say Sahara off Lafayette is best, Capt Pete's on Cap Circle is good and when I lived in Myers Park I enjoyed the gyro at Kosta's off S.Adams.

Truthfully Tally has %+%+ for Greek food and that it includes Captain Petes, Sahara, Pita Pit and Pitaria. You're best going with something else although if you MUST have a gyro the best in town that I've found is Hobbit. When I would go to watch MMA PPVs at the Hobbit on the regular I would usually get their great wings hut about of out of four times if get the gyro and some fried bottle caps (pickled jalapeño rings much better than fried pickles).

I've always loved Capt. Petes on capital circle near the prison.

One of my fav tally restaurants. Is it still around?

I think so. Like I said, I don't care for it but I see the sign driving that way often and it looks like it's open.

He sold it and opened a new place over near campus called Little Athens. It's awesome. Best gyro in town, by far. The new owners of Capt Pete's let it go down hill.

It was once good. Now not so much. Will be surprised if they are open in 6 month.
Yeah, I drove by the other day and it looked like it was shut down. Wouldn't surprise me, if so. The new owners couldn't deliver a consistent product.

The thing about Gyro meat is it's a lot better when it's been baking on that vertical spit for a while. When you are getting meat that's been shaved off during busy time, it's doesn't have that "crust" that makes it so good.

During the 90s it was quite good and I couldn't order just one Gyro on a visit. I do recall the owner then was from Egypt.
