My brother-in-law and I are taking another guys trip, this time to Iceland and Faroe Islands in late January to early February. We'll be there for 9 days total. The plan is to spend a little time in Reykavik but mostly we'll be in the southern parts of the country on the Golden Circle. We'll also be in Torshavn in the Faroe Islands.

Any recommendations? Northern Lights, geothermal spas, ice caving, and whale watching are on the list of things to do already. Maybe some snowmobiling too.

Sounds like fun! My next European trip will very likely be Iceland plus a return trip to Scotland maybe with a quick stop in Paris again or Ireland thrown in. But definitely Iceland and back to Scotland.

That sounds like a cool trip. Didn't the Top Gear guys do a super Jeep tour there, THAT would be cool.

1) Iceland produces enough tomatoes via greenhouse / geothermal that they are actually in the tomato export business. I just think thats interesting.
2) Icelanders still believe in gnomes / elves. Its unique to them to hold that belief into adulthood so I'd look for a tour or something. Maybe a snipe hunt.
3) I'd try hakarl just to say I had tried the original.

My nephew did a winter trip to Iceland - he spent the whole time wondering why he didn't do a summer trip to Iceland.

Ha! I admit I've already had those thoughts a little. But it was $400 round trip out of Cincinnati for that time of year and that includes upgraded seats, which I have to buy for leg room, and trip insurance in case of cancellation. Without the upgrade in seats the round trip ticket per person was something like $239 a piece. Crazy cheap.

We loved Scotland...where did you go there?
Our next trip we hope to go to the islands on the west portion...out of Oban.

They are Scandinavian there, so I would suggest hot blonds.

We spent three and a half days as part of a two week trip that was mostly London and a trip around Wales but with side trips to Paris and Scotland.

We took the Flying Scotsman up from London to Edinburgh and rented a car. We spent a day in Edinburgh and stayed at Dalhousie Castle in Bonnyrigg (which I HIGHLY rec, we did falconry lessons, did a falconry hunt and some archery plus had the best food of the entire trip including against Michelin starred restaurants in Paris and London). Then we drove straight north to do some Scotch distillery tours and tastings in the “highlands” then circled back through Glasgow and down to Wales.

I went on one of the Jeep tours - we had a Ford Excursion with massive tires.
The guy drove us off road through the snow, in and through shallow rivers and up big snow covered hills. It was a blast.
