Looking to do a kitchen remodel and was wondering if IKEA would be a viable option? Do they offer high end cabinetry or does it all look cheap? I'm assuming everything is self install if purchased from the store?

We had Lowes do our tile in the kitchen, and master bath, carpet in living room and master bedroom, and counters in kitchen, master bath. From our experience? Highly recommend. They used sub-contractors. Someone from Lowes kept in touch through the whole process to see if we were pleased with the quality and progress.

Similar to TallyNole93, we used Home Depot for our kitchen renovation and were very happy. Used local contractors, who were vetted by Home Depot, and Home Depot stood behind their work. I had a minor issue with the granite installer (about scheduling, not the quality of work), and Home Depot took care of it. I had a dedicated project manager and everything ran through him.

To top it off, they offered a 24-month zero interest line of credit to pay for the work.

I live in Fishers, Indiana. Obviously more personal, but I'd be curious at a total cost if anyone cares to share.

We didn't replace cabinets. We restored them with Watco Rejuvenating Oil and changed hardware. We were ready to replace but read about it. Cabinets are like new. Replaced formica counters with Silestone. Replaced linoleum floors in kitchen, utility room, half bath and master bath with tile. Replaced old carpet in living/dining room and bedroom with new carpet. I want to say it was around 14K or so.

I've seen very nice IKEA kitchens and shoddy ones. Depends on your taste and budget.

People I know who have worked with them (including my company's CEO, who had them do a kitchen in his vacation home) rave about the customer service.

I think their stuff would be great if you lived in a European city, I just don't like their stuff in an American house, very different styles.

You can get the Ikea boxes and get the doors from another source to change up the look. A friend of mine did this and had 12k in a kitchen that looked like three times that.

I've been to IKEA one time only, was with my wife and I happened to be hungover.

Worst experience of my life!

never been there but man the new one near me is a fricken eyesore. Gonna be beastly traffic too.

I looked at IKEA, overall didn't like the finish for my project. Some of them look too modern and the rest looks lower end to me. I looked at the custom stuff from Lowes / Home Depot, it was pretty good, but the prices kept coming out to be @14K for my L shaped kitchen, about 17 linear feet. I ended up ordering through a local lumber place, and ordered from Mid Continental Cabinetry. Final price ended up being about 60% of the HD / Lowes rates. Very happy with the end product (self installed). No clue what installation would run.

I also looked at Cabinets for less. My .02 is the fit finish is about the same as the IKEA stuff.

In south Florida yes if involves plumbing and electrical moves

Mechanical too if moving or adding an external exhaust

I pull them as usually the old kitchens are out of code
And I bring it all up to code

Do you live in a dorm? If so, then Ikea is perfect for a remodel.

My first thought was this, almost replied, "if you're wanting to have the nicest treehouse on the block, IKEA is your place".

Based on other comments, they might have a quality product for this. Again, I don't know much about them, I told you my experience with ikea.

Bart, the traffic there is beastly already and has been for years. The entire area is a traffic cluster. DOT brilliance on display.

I had a horrid experience with Lowe's earlier this year and it was just for carpet. Thankfully they did give me a full refund.
So, being the glutton for punishment that I am, I went back there for an estimate for a new slider to the patio, the one with the blinds built in. Okay, advertised at $899 + $499 install.
Final estimate? Just at $2K. Permit from City plus extra trim materials, etc.not included. I just felt like there was an element of false advertising.

I'm having things done to my house and I'm not a bottomless well of wealth like my LR peers and I've got to shop around.

That's what Lowe's is claiming. Unless I buy the door and have someone install it off the record.
Arent you involved in an HOA? Id pay one of the maintenance dudes $150 or so cash and have them put it in.
