We'll provide updates here from Jimbo Fisher's 1 p.m. press conference.
Fisher starts around 1:10 p.m. Starts off by saying he's excited about the season. Knows the team will look great today in shorts and shirts. Eager to see how they look in pads.
What he's looking for in the first week -- Don't want to have to coach the effort and toughness. That should be in place now. Wants to see guys who are focused on detail and want to learn.
About Derwin being named No. 1 player in college football -- Fisher says it's nice because it says he has talent. Now up to Derwin to fulfill it.
Asked if Derwin could do some things on offense ... Fisher says he has the ability to do that.
Fisher says Eberle and Dickerson will be "full go" after their surgeries.
Says George Campbell is also "full go." Can practice.
On Campbell, says he has a lot of potential. Good kid, works hard. Injuries weren't his fault.
Says it's important for players like Campbell to block out criticism (from fans and media) when their careers get off to a slow start. "That's garbage ... control what you can control." Said Campbell has done a good job of that. "I think that's why he's at where he's at."
Freshman OL Brady Scott (scooter accident, ankle injury) is out for camp. Says that's the only one.
No academic casualties.
At left tackle -- Rick Leonard starting at left tackle, followed by Ball, Williams and others. Ruble, Kelly and others will work at right tackle. Said Dickerson could play some OT too.
In the spring, Fisher said Leonard was more comfortable at the right side. But he said he's worked at it and feels comfortable on left side too.
As for the open CB job, says Meyers, Taylor and others will compete there.
On Marvin Wilson, said they're eager to see how he looks. All the reports have been positive.
Alec Eberle definitely the starter at center ... said he had been playing through pain before hip surgery. Moving very well and very strong now.
Raving about Deondre's freshman year. Especially how he played in big situations. Players believe in him.
Says he likes the personality of the team. Kids are attentive and listen. Not late for meetings.
Says "culture" is the most important thing for a program. Starts with the administration and coaches, then moves to the players. They have to own it, and they have.
Jacues Patrick is the starting tailback. He's earned that right. Looks great. Still needs to continue to prove he's the No. 1 guy.
Asked about the defense, Fisher rattles off a long list of players. Says they have a chance to be very good. Now have to do it.
On Amir Rasul, "All that guy does is go 700 miles per hour." Says he has a great work ethic, "yes sir, no sir." Great competitor.
Asked about the players he has named as "starters," Fisher says that's just to start the camp. They have to keep proving it. That's why you have great players, for competition. Nothing set in stone.
On James Blackman, says he's eager to see him on the field. Has enjoyed getting to know him better. Says he has a good mind for the game.
On Josh Sweat, says biggest key for him will be staying on field every play. Says he can play run and pass equally well.
That's about it for news. We'll have the full video up soon.
