My job search in the St. Pete area is in full swing and I had no idea there were so many sites out there. Indeed and Zip Recruiter seem to be the best and where I focus most of my time. I am also getting emails with these supposedly "great jobs that are a perfect fit with my resume" but I have to sign up and pay to reveal the job and apply. Anyone ever sign up for these services? Other places I should be looking? Who needs a pool boy?

In this market...you should never pay anything as the candidate. The companies pay the recruiters.

I'd say LinkedIn is a must, then Zip, Indeed, etc.

What type of work do you do? This may also help determine the best places to look

Currently the Director of Marketing for a non-profit in the legal industry. Not a lot of similar entities out there so an industry change is very likely.

My focus is on IT recruiting. But for you I'd suggest LinkedIn, Monster, and Zipp.

Thanks Goldie and Random. My email is screen name at the google mail (I have a non-seminole email on my resume) if you want to reach out with any recruiter info. It would be good for me to pick their brains.

My wife landed a great job already so we are halfway there. She starts in a few weeks.

I could use a pool boy. Maybe even could transfer my lawn work to you. I don't know much about the job market here, but am happy to help if I can. In addition to sites and recruiters, you might want to join up with the Pinellas and Tampa Seminole Clubs to make some contacts.

If he has time and willing, you might want to run your resume by Nolomite. He has helped out some people here with fixing up their resumes. He did a fantastic job making mine look a lot better some years ago.

Thanks Gonolz. Was going to email you about this too. Nolomite already hooked me up on the resume. He was awesome. Good call on the Seminole Clubs in the area. Keep your eyes and ear open for me.

When I was shopping around last year I uploaded my resume to Indeed and was getting email from potential employers pretty regularly. Would assume the same for marketing

I have over 16 years in the recruiting biz. Honestly all you need to do right now is change your status on linked in to "Open to New Opportunities" and make it somewhat easy to contact you. You will be getting buried pretty quickly.

I am looking for another work situation, but need to be on the down low about said search. If I just hang out a shingle on these sites it will be seen by my work peeps since the company is also looking to fill some slots.

How do you spread the word without spreading the word?

This. My situation right here.

Depending on your skillset you either go directly to the source (i.e. company you're looking to get on with) or you go to a recruiting firm who doesn't put your resume out for the world to see.

3rd. So definitely watching this thread. Hadn't touched my resume in years (yeah yeah, I know), been getting comfy and lazy.

Anyone know when space force is gonna start up? Thats where I wanna work.

Just keep an up to date LinkedIn profile. Recruiters will find you. There are ways to post your resume confidentially, but I can find the person 99% of the time.

LinkedIn is updated and I have it set to "not looking, but listening" or whatever. The weird thing is seeing my employer (LARGE national financial company) viewing my profile weirds me out.

Who is looking at your profile? Random people within the company, HR, your boss? There are a lot of reasons why someone internally would check it out. Make sure your privacy settings block people from seeing your connections and who you're connecting with.

Coming out of college, I did use Indeed to look for jobs and also FSU's job listings but ended up finding my job through the campus career fair. Nowadays, I use LinkedIn and regularly receive messages from recruiters about potential positions but I also wanted to recommend Glassdoor as a resource to not just find job listings but also to read reviews by employees of companies, interview questions, and salary ranges.

I recruit for southern NY and CT, how about you?

I'm based in Tallahassee and recruit for Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi.

Before this place I was at one of the big boys in the business recruiting mainly in the FL Panhandle.

I was with a local outfit that I help start that grew from 5 to 37 employees in 5 years. Now I work for myself, but am keeping my options open.

5 to 37. That is a lot of growth in this industry.

Do you find it harder working for yourself? First getting this business then having to recruit for it. I'd probably go absolutely nuts.

Yup, three years now, hence the part about keeping my options open ;)
It gets tough doing everything myself, not just full-cycle, but all the back-office crap as well. The only nice part is I really only need to close one good deal a month and Ive made my money.

Eat what you kill. I went out on my own 8 years ago. Lots of ups and downs, but mostly ups. I started out only hiring FSU grads or fans. It was a lot of fun. Had to diversify a little, but the employees all sporting garnet and gold on fridays during football season is cool.
