What's your stance on this? I have some land and see coyotes from time to time. I have some chickens and a golden retriever. Should I shoot coyotes on sight or only if they are going after my animals?

They WILL be going after your animals. You probably won't get to actually see that, so I say go ahead and dust them if you get the chance.

They WILL get your chickens. And they're faster and more Wiley Coyote than your retriever. You gotta do what you gotta do.

Eh, blow them away. They're not native, they're an invasive species. Now part of the reason they ARE an invasive species is they're filling the vacuum caused by us killing the native red wolves. But I'm fine with working on breeding the reds and keeping the coyote numbers down.

Light them UP. They well definitely go after your chickens. Where I live they clean out the younger deer. Lock and load !

lock and load. may want to chk with fla game and fish to be sure it is ok to toast them, especially if they are posing a threat to pets and farm animals.

Except bears
Where did you see black bears were an invasive species? Black bears are a native species to Fl.

As for killing coyotes, shot 'em all. I saw a video from a management area where a camera was placed to view a coyote den. The coyotes averaged bringing back 3 fawns a week back to the den. I live in a farming area and the farmers routinely lose calves and baby pigs to coyotes.

Tell the farmers to get a donkey or two! problem solved
AS for the fawns, that's sad, but at least it's for food. The only reason the average redneck gives a damn about them is because they can't grow up so Bubba can kill it and mount it's head on the wall!

Is there a shortage of deer anywhere in the US?

There's more whitetails living now than at any point in history. Because we killed off their natural predators (wolves and panthers), created spaces they love (they don't love dense forest they like looser forest with big grass fields nearby which we've created in the suburbs and farms), and the modern rednecks don't kill as many as the subsistence natives and original settlers/small farmers that needed their meat to survive. So America is flooded with whitetails.

Right. So we probably shouldn't get too concerned if coyotes are killing fawns. Livestock, yes, but not whitetails.

Cool Story bro...

Few years back, my sister was walking her dog (20 lbs Bichon/Shitzu mix) near her house in West Boca Raton first thing in the morning. They were having sightings in several neighborhoods but until that point, she had never seen one. This coyote came out of no where and grabbed the leash and dog and ripped it right out of her hand. Some neighbor heard my sister scream and chased it about a mile and got the dog back by hitting it with a stick. The dog was in very rough shape, bleeding and scared. My sister had to keep it quarantined for about 3 months until they were sure it didn't have rabies. Since then, the dog has made a complete recovery and is living the good life.

Why was your sister walking her dog in South Florida without a gun?
