LATE REPORT

Jimbo Fisher was pretty matter of fact following today's practice. He said the last two days at practice have been really good. Went onto to say that people have underestimated Boston College and what the Eagles are capable of doing.

He said, "They'll test your physicality just like we will. They run the ball. They're physical. They run the misdirection...quarterback runs. They do all those things."

He was asked about this being the first road game for a number of young players still finding their way as starters. Fisher said playing on the road isn't what it used to be. The advent of no-huddle offenses have forced players to become comfortable with different forms of communication. He said communication once took the biggest hit when a team went on the road. Now it could be more about nerves but as Fisher put it, players could get nervous playing at home.

He added, "You really talk in kind of sign language. The things you do with signals and wristbands. That's changed that. The atmosphere and the crowd will be kind of tough. But that's a part of growing up."

We're set to grab a few players here in a bit. And as I've just typed that, Travis Rudolph literally just walked in the door.

EARLY REPORT

Practice returned to its regularly scheduled time following Monday's late 6 p.m. start. The mood out there was pretty serious for the most part. With the short week, you could see the coaches begin to work with players on more technical aspects of their assignments. Now, for the news:

LB Reggie Northrup was at practice today and was sporting a left knee brace. He appeared fine and was in a pretty jovial mood. TE Jalen Wilkerson didn't dress today. He was wearing a t-shirt and shorts. OL Abdul Bello and Cole Minshew were both in helmets and shorts but did not participate in drills. DB Nate Andrews still has a heavy cast on his right hand at practice.

WR Nyqwuan Murray's "cast" has now been reduced to just two wrapped fingers and nothing more. He was able to wear gloves on both hands.

As for quarterbacks, they were working on handoffs from under center and on toss sweeps. Nothing too out of the ordinary. Seems like everyone's objective on tosses were to hit the running back square in the numbers and everyone achieved that goal.

The offensive line spent quite a bit of time working on gap control. Offensive line coach Rick Trickett worked with Wilson Bell and Brock Ruble about stepping into their man and then driving him away from the ball. Same thing was going on with coach Tim Brewster and the tight ends. Brewster has taken a martinet-like approach toward getting the tight ends to understand their responsibility as blockers.

Final note from today's early session. The defensive ends were doing more work on the "Dime Rabbit" package. Ends like Josh Sweat were getting instruction on the most effective way to rush inside the tackle as opposed to attacking the edge. Our Ira Schoffel wrote about the "Dime Rabbit" package which we highly suggest you read.

NFL teams at practice: Dolphins, Rams, Saints and Titans

We're slated to get Jimbo Fisher sometime before 6 p.m. Until next time. Goodbye for now.
