Latson has a double-double as FSU wins sixth straight, routs Virginia

The No. 22 Florida State women’s basketball team (19-4, 9-2 ACC) secured their sixth straight win with a decisive 101-68 victory over Virginia (12-12, 4-8 ACC) Thursday night at the John Paul Jones Arena.

The convincing performance was the seventh 100-point game this year, extending the program record for most 100-point games in a single season, leading the nation.

Ta’Niya Latson once again led the offensive charge, posting her fifth double-double this season with 27 points, a career-high of 12 assists, and five rebounds. Her 12 assists tied the third-highest performance in program history.

Makayla Timpson also made her mark, tallying 18 points, eight rebounds, and a tying career-high eight blocks, which also tied the third-best performance in program history.

Amaya Bonner added 12 points and O’Mariah Gordon finished with 15 points, despite early foul trouble.

Florida State set the tone early with an 8-0 run topped off by a steal and layup by junior Amaya Bonner. The offense never wavered with the Seminoles netting five three pointers, two from Bonner, to lead 49-31 at the half.

Latson’s commanding third quarter with 11 points and four assists lengthened Florida State’s healthy lead to forty points going into the fourth quarter. FSU finished the game with ten three pointers, three coming from Carla Viegas.

Finishing off a dominant 40 minutes with 18 points in the final quarter, the Seminoles led the game from start to finish with the help of 11 different scorers.

This Sunday, Florida State will return home to the Tucker Center to face No. 14 NC State (18-4, 10-1 ACC) at 2 p.m. on CW.
