Does anyone have any experience with this?

My ex-wife lives in Southwood which is zoned for Rickards. Our daughter is in eighth grade and we want her to go to Lincoln. Or rather she wants to go to Lincoln and we are okay with that.

Currently I live in the part of Killearn that is zoned to go to Lincoln, but I am selling my house and I too want to move to Southwood when it sells, largely so we don't have to cart her back-and-forth a half hour every time she goes from one house to the other. We obviously are not going to allow her to go to Rickards though.

Her grandmother lives in Piney-Z, which is zoned for Lincoln. Problem solved if we can "officially" establish her residence there. Has anyone done this for their child? Is it difficult? Does anyone actually verify that she lives there? Thanks for any help you can provide.

*Daughter is 14. No pics, sickos.

I did it for a while in CO and the schools were none the wiser. It probably helped that my grandma has the same last name as my kids so that may be a factor.

Why not just look into school choice? Usually easy for middle and high school.

I think that now if you live in Southwood you can apply and be accepted to Lincoln. I know there was a push for this a couple of years ago. In part because Lincoln is actually closer to Southwood than is Richards.

Southwood kids can go to Lincoln

We tried school choice for my son in Elementary school and could never get accepted into any of the schools we wanted. They were all already "capped". If it is easier for Middle School/High School that would be great because our current school zone is terrible, so we're using a charter school instead.

Send her to Florida High. It's a real good school and it's in Southwood.

Got some answers.

1. School choice was never an option. Only schools accepting students were Godby or Rickards. We knew that and would never have let her go there so we never bothered to apply.

2. She doesn't want to go to Florida High. That's the solution that her mom and I would prefer, but she wants to go to Lincoln where all of her friends are going. Can't blame her. I'd have wanted the same, and Lincoln's an A school, so it's a desirable place to send her anyway.

3. The only Southwood kids that can go to Lincoln are ones who started at Florida High. For some reason they have the choice, but noone else does.

4.. Gramma has to have legal guardianship for her to go that route. We're certainly not going to rescind our parental rights, just because you never know what might happen, so it looks like I'm stuck moving from Killearn into somewhere else in the Lincoln school zone...which definitely is not the answer I was hoping to hear. But at least I know what I'm up against now.

We're trying Florida High, but so far haven't gotten in. We re-apply every year, but so far have had no luck.

I have clients that do this all the time.

Very simple stuff. Get a bill of some kind in your name or your Ex-wife's name at the grandmother's address.

Gold.

Don't ask, just go in and show the paperwork and act like you live there.

Period.

Exactly what Bud said...

Unless your daughter is some elite football athlete, they never look into this other than providing the bill that states you live in that area. It won't be checked after the initial submittal either...

Good luck on the fraud, bro.

Public school, LOL.
Tim Tebow (homeschooled) rented an apartment in the school district where they wanted him to play football.

And even for football players they don't check

The whole time I was in high school I "lived" at an empty lot (with a mailbox) that my parents owned. The mail from the school, plus a few other items (magazines, etc.), would go there and I would stop and pick it up on the way home. But I didn't participate in school sports until my senior year, so that might make a difference.

It will take one parent about 2 minutes to call the school when they find out that your daughter doesn't live in the school district.

I've already called in an anonymous tip for the school to be on the lookout for this Les Claypool fella. It just goes to show - never trust the bassist.

To the OP, why not move somewhere a lot closer to Southwood than Killearn that is still zoned for Lincoln? Piney Z is still pretty close, (and you can even consider moving in with your mother!)

Re: Living w/a grandparent "officially" for school zone purposes in T

Find a program that is offered at Lincoln and not at Rickards and make the case for that. If you know anyone in the School Board that helps too!

Timmy Tebow was exactly the thought I had when I read the thread title. IIRC, the apartment in St Johns County he used for his home address so that he could go to Nease really did belong to his grandmother, while his parents actually lived in the Arlington area of JAX.
