Louisville defeats FSU women's tennis in ACC Championship

The No. 57 Florida State women’s tennis team fell 4-2 to No. 64 Louisville in the second round of the ACC Women’s Tennis Championship on Wednesday morning at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.

In a tightly contested doubles session, the Cardinals earned victories on Courts 1 and 3 to clinch the doubles point, taking a 1-0 lead. Millie Bissett and Tina Li led 5-4 on Court 2 when play concluded.

In singles, the Seminoles captured the opening set on Courts 1 and 5. No. 114 Eva Shaw won six out of seven games to take the first set 6-1 on Court 1. After trailing 2-1, Laura Putz won four consecutive games for a 5-2 lead and went on to earn a 6-3 first-set victory.

FSU won the second set across five different courts. Shaw earned a straight-set victory defeating No. 111 Alice Oits 6-1, 6-3, to tie the match at 1-1. Louisville regained a 2-1 lead with a victory on Court 3.

After dropping the opening set, Maria Juliana Parra Romero, Bissett, and Li rallied to force third sets. Louisville extended its lead to 3-1 with a victory on Court 2.
Putz earned herself a straight-sets victory defeating Germany Davis 6-3, 6-3 on Court 5.

Trailing 3-2, the Noles battled on Courts 4 and 6 until Louisville earned a victory on Court 6 to clinch the 4-2 victory.

Shaw reached double-digit victories with today’s victory on Court 1, improving to 10-5 overall while earning her second-ranked victory of the season. Putz improved to 9-4, earning her second victory from the Court 5 position this season. Freshman Mary Boyce Deatherage earned a team-high 15 singles wins this season, followed closely by sophomore Maelie Monfils' 13 singles victories. Parra Romero and Shaw, the 39th-ranked doubles duo in America, led the team with 13 wins in doubles play this year.
