Man fatally shot while camping with his young daughters in California

Based on the verbiage, I agree with nottribe, likely not an accident. And an utter lack of details in the article, not even stating "we asked and under investigation not comment " on any number of details. "Well done" to the 2 credited authors.

Therefore my money would be random violence, gang related OR drug related if the area is know for illegal grow ops (which would be counterintuitive as this draws cops to the area) and corporate espionage/murder is the lowest on my list of possibilities. Who knows. But what a horrible event for the kids to have to go through.

I think Belem was the shooter.
You misunderstood what I told you - I am "Shooter", not, I am THE shooter.

CNN affiliate KABC-TV detailed several of the other shootings at the park: A man said his car was hit by gunfire Monday morning. A woman told authorities in January 2017 she heard a loud noise in the middle of the night and found a bullet hole in the back of her car. There are also reports of a man being shot at the park in 2016.

There's your answer. Random, but not accidental.

Hell, it could be something as simple as that he got into a disagreement with another camper (noise, drinking, general bad behavior) and they capped him in the night. I can see how this stuff could escalate quite easily.

There can be really dangerous people up in those parks: Malibu Creek, Topanga, Griffith Park. Tweekers and grow operations up there...and homeless camps. I had a group of friends run into a band of tweekers while camping and surfing around there. It was not a good situation. Terrible story.

The question remains that if so dangerous, why take your kids and go camping there??

I think most people consider it safe to camp up there. As with most things, its not an every day or even every year occurrence.

Agreed. I go hiking in that park fairly regularly, and I have never heard of any of these shootings before. It is certainly considered a safe area.

Griffith park can be pretty dangerous, from what I recall. I know there are some trails up there, but don't know if camping is allowed.

I have never had any problems in Griffith Park. It closes at sundown, except for the Observatory and the ranger-led night hikes, but there is no camping in the park. I would be (seriously) far more concerned about running into a mountain lion, pack of coyotes, or a rattlesnake in Griffith Park than I would be of any other human beings.

I've hiked a number of times in each of the parks you listed, never seen anything to concern me whatsoever.

He was shot in the head while sleeping. This article said there have been 5 unsolved shootings there in the past 2 years.

I think I have seen some Lifetime Movies that are based on the camping theme. Lots of ne’er-do-wells basically go off of the grid and escape scrutiny by being “campers.” Add a murder and some smoking hot woman, and, voila, a Lifetime Movie is complete.

FIFY - Add a man hating woman and you have a Lifetime movie.
