I'm not a recruiting expert or a football coach but I have followed our recruiting for a long time. Like many of you I'll watch high school film of guys we have a shot at, land, or other top players around the country. I'm sure you all do the same but every year I find that I more excited about certain recruits than I am about others. Yes, sometimes it has to do with stars but often times it has to do with what I read or see in their tape. Just for fun, name a current or former FSU player that you didn't expect to be great that ended up blowing your expectations away. I'll start:
Most surprisingly great player: Nyqwan Murray - honestly, when he committed to us I saw a smaller receiver who was 170-175 pounds and watching his tape I just overlooked him as a guy that would provide depth but not a major contributor....based on what I saw last year, man was I wrong! He has freakishly good hands, he's very elusive and gets great separation. Still has to keep up the good work but he's definitely blown me away so far.
Runner up: Rashad Greene - I didn't expect him to be bad by any means but again I saw I an undersized receiver with "good" but not elite speed and I just overlooked him. One of the best receivers we've had in a long time.
