Currently living in NY as I have for all but the four years I spent at FSU and a year in Miami.

I'm 42, my wife is 36. Two kids, 3.5 be 9 months. I have my own business which can be done remote, and my wife works for Amazon which has a lot of transfer opportunity.

I've got cousins who live in Cornelius who moved down from CT a few years ago. Looking for other potential areas (good schools and outdoor activities are important).

Kicking tires right now, but this could get very real next spring.

Appreciate any insite you southerners can give!

I’ve lived in Tampa for 10 years or so and have always thought if I moved it would be to Charlotte or RDU area. My brother has lived in Raleigh for like 15 years and I always like visiting. It’s a little gray and crappy in the winter which would be annoying but I like the people in that area.

Moved from Miami to Charlotte in January of 2016 and haven’t looked back. Great state to live in.

What's wrong with upstate NY, Vermont or Maine? All three seem like three great options for outdoor activities.

Lived just outside of Raleigh for five years. We loved it, five of the best years of our life. Long spring and fall, short but hot summer and cold but short winter. Reasonable access to both the beach and mountains. Fresh produce abounds. N.C. State, Duke and UNC all very close. FSU sports comes to town often. Many young families affluent and have been moved in from all over the world working in RTP.

Without getting into a conversation too much about it, NY is lost politically, and is completely controlled by the downstate (where I live). I've just had enough of it, especially the tax aspect, and it's only getting worse. There is a reason it's been a net loss population state for so many years.

As for the other options, as much as I like visiting those states, I couldn't imagine living there. I've already got family in NC and FL, so I'd like to go somewhere that puts me closer. As another poster mentioned, it would be nice to be closer to FSU sports as well, and the weather in NC is better than VT or ME for someone who doesn't ski.

I have no clue about the schools but I would definitely move to Charlotte or the burbs of Charlotte. I've heard great things about Raleigh and horrible things about Winston Salem.

Outside of Florida, NC would be the next best state to live in if you're a FSU fan who is trying to catch as many FSU sporting events as possible and enjoy the outdoors.

I want to check out Maine and Vermont in the fall or ski in the winter. Looks nice and not as crowded as Colorado.

I've got a buddy of mine who has a rental house in VT and is a ski instructor. If you decide to check it out, let me know and maybe he can help you.

Also, Bar Harbour/Acadia is one of the best summer vacations I've ever taken.

Looking at Charlotte subs for sure, just didn't know about anywhere but Cornelius. I'm going to stay for a week this fall to check things out.
