Will be going on a long road trip later this summer and want a good app to use. Amazon, Apple, etc.? What is the best?

For free Spotify and Pandora. If you have Amazon prime, Amazon. If you have that iTunes account then use that.

I got an offer in the mail the other day for my older car. 3 years $99. If they would offer it on my newer ride, I would take it in a heartbeat. My old ride has been a reliable car, just not sure if she can make it another 3 years.

I use spotify and Audible. I like Spotify because you can download music and their radio option are pretty good as well. Audible because music gets old so I switch it up with listening to books.

I used to be a long timer Pandora Premium user, but I eventually changed to Spotify Premium. I also have SiriusXM in my car.

The commercial free music of SiriusXM is great, but I mostly subscribe for the live sport/talk show programming.

With Spotify, I mostly enjoy the on-demand choice of music, the ability to download for offline streaming (such as long flights), and the ability to use on a variety of devices. Other streaming services offer the same features; I just happen to like Spotify more.

For me, they are both must haves.

My family does Google Play Music for $14.it's 4 people.

We do a lot of outdoor activities that are often without cell service. It's great to have downloaded music.. Best thing I ever did was dload my Thumbs Up music, and it became a station

Is it a principle thing with XM?

I'd have no problem paying $30 a month for XM. Funny to me how so many value it so differently.
For me it was definitely a principle thing.

And while I understand many/most can afford it, why wouldn't you have a problem paying $30/month while many others are only paying $5/month?

You wouldn't tolerate such an arbitrary or unfair pricing scheme were it gasoline or groceries, would you? Granted, those are staples and Sirius/XM is a luxury item, so my comparison isn't totally fair...but you get my drift.

I have SiriusXM and also use Pandora. I start up my Steve Winwood station on Pandora and never come across a bad song.

XM is used mainly for sports broadcasts when I can't get to a TV.

Btw I found a channel on Pandora that we absolutely love. Called Fourth of July Radio. It's a bit hard to find some some reason. Also make sure to spell out Fourth.

I like iheartradio because you can play the classic Kasey Kasem at40. You can also pick a city and hear what that city is hearing, like if you want to hear the local Tally sports station to hear Noles talk live, etc.

Pandora is nice because it does a good job discovering new things I would like based on one act or even one track. I just realized that when you "add variety" to a station you can also rename it. I will definitely make more use of this feature going forward.

Haven't used Slacker in a while, but from what I remember, they did a good job combining two or more artists into a custom station. I used to do a Dirty Heads/Michael Buble combo that worked pretty well at my house.

Spotify (paid) is good when you know the artist/song/album/playlist already. I don't see as much functionality there as I would like that mirrors what Pandora does. It seems hit and miss when I do a search whether that type of thing is available. What you usually see is playlists by other users that include what you searched for.

For car trips, though, I sometimes prefer the spoken word, like a book via audible or podcasts. I think I stay more alert listening to those than to music.

I do a lot, lot, lot of driving, I pay for Spotify (and Im generally against paying for anything). It's worth it.

I use pandora sometimes and I have XM. Those three keep me groovin'

Or more accurately sweatin' to the oldies.

I use Spotify and SiriusXM.

Spotify is great. Their Discover Weekly is a great way to find new artists.

I like SiriusXM on road trips but it doesn’t work well in Tallahassee and other tree-hugging areas because the signal goes in and out.

We have used Pandora for our trips, and it was good. This thread has me interested in Spotify. Is it similar to pandora? I am looking for other content, and I heard Spotify has podcasts, etc. is that true?

yes, but it doesn't have a good selection of podcasts. I have to use other apps for that.

Yep, we do too. hopefully they won't figure out that we no longer have the same address...

I have a ton of CDs. I want to have an account that allows MY music to be stored And to add songs to my play lists

I have Google Play and honestly, I can't stand it

Just cancel your accounts , go without it until they beg you to come back.

I cancelled my Spotify and ran with the free version until they emailed me and offered premium for $9.99 (total) for the next 3 months. Cancelling my account took about 3 minutes. Activating the new offer the same time spent.

Same with XM, cancelled it when my year ran up and they tried to charge me like $179 a year. I rejected all their reduced offers and cancelled.

A week later they called and I got it got 6 months at $4/month.

It’s really not much of a hassle to save a ton of money. Sure it’s unnecessary, but not nearly as painful as the direct TV dance.

It appears you can do this with Spotify Premium, assuming you're willing to take the time to rip the music files from your CDs. I just experimented with an audiobook I have in MP3 format. I added the MP3 files to my Spotify library app on my computer. Next, I created a new playlist for the audiobook and added the files to the playlist. On my iphone, I soon found the new audiobook playlist I created and clicked the "Download" option. After a few minutes, everything synced and I could play the audiobook on my iphone via the Spotify app. I'll have to test it out to see if it still works when I'm away from my home network, though.

I have already ripped them, as they are mp3's in my Google Play account which is free (and sucks). Too bad Spotify doesn't have a free music imort/download option.

You can upload your cds to Google Play. It takes a while, but worth it long term. I love Google, never have a problem with it. Well, once in a blue moon the Wake up Warchant cast will not dload, like every few months.

Matti, I wasn't very clear. I have uploaded my CD 'songs already to Google Play and do NOT like the system or interface.

The one thing, I would change, is when I search, I want my Library to be the first option. I don't like having to scroll thru, what they think I want to listen to.
