Sad that he’s got Parkinson’s, but pretty amazing he was still performing at his age. Great singer-songwriter.

One of the great popular songwriters in American history, despite becoming kind of a walking parody late in life.

He's been talk-singing for at least a decade now...I'm sure it's still ironic fun to see him, but I don't think he's really had his voice for some time.

I took my mother to see him a few years back because a) her age group (65-85) is his main demographic; b) mom really wanted to see him; and c) even though I bought the tickets, my sister still refused to accompany mom. The part that stood out was his duet of You Don't Bring Me Flowers with a girl young enough to have been his great-granddaughter. It was like an SNL skit.

Who knew Tex had a brother.

Like Semi, I took my mom to see Neil Diamond back in the day. It seems like that was a VERY common dynamic: 20-somethings there with their moms. Not gonna lie - I had a good time. I knew the words to enough of the songs that I could sing along, and my mom was having a blast. Sucks that he's got Parkinson's - not how anyone wants to end up after what seems like a pretty good life.

I am a fan of his music but caution anyone who intends on watching the 1980's Jazz Singer.

.......Oy vey

If anyone is interested in music of this era, I watched an awesome documentary last night called BANG! The Bert Berns Story about a guy I was surprised I knew nothing about. It's not about Neil Diamond, but he is a part of the story so I thought I would throw it here. If you have an interest in old R&B and soul especially, or Atlantic records, it's a must see. At least last night, it was a 99 cent rental on iTunes.

Speaking of music documentaries, I watched one about Chicago on Netflix. Awesome story if you like their music and a good insight on group dynamics. Worth the time to watch.
