I find this article very interesting.

I listen to a lot of TalkSport, which is a British sports radio station. Just the other day they had a segment talking about the NFL coming over to England to play games. The overwhelming consensus was the games are supported now because they are a novelty. However, if a team were ever located there full time they would have an incredibly difficult time.

One caller asked the hosts a simple question. Which would have a better chance to succeed, an NFL team in London or an EPL team in New York. The hosts laughed and said the EPL team in NYC would easily be more successful than the NFL team in London...because not enough people in England care about american football.

It will be very interesting to see how this eventually unfolds.

Re: NFL Team in London

Not to be picky, but your title is misleading. The Fallcons, which isn't even a good college team today, are there. Or did you mean to reference the Liedowns?

I am pleased to note the Falcan'ts are utilizing The Arsenal's Colney training facility for the game. Maybe some of that "at the death" magic can rub off on them.

Re: NFL Team in London

Sorry Ed, you are correct. I have changed the title to better reflect what the article is stating.

As for using the Arsenal training facility, I just hope the ineptness of the Falcons doesn't rub off on the Gunners.

Re: NFL Team in London

With all this talk about moving teams and such, I would rather they expand than move teams. Unless a city can absolutely prove that they cannot afford a team, they should be able to keep it. Expand 2 teams into LA and UK. Don't steal 2 City's teams.

This is such a horrendous idea that it almost sounds like something from the Onion.

How EXACTLY is it going to work for a team to fly an extra 6-8 hours one way, just to play a DIVISIONAL rival??

And who would be their divisional rivals? AFC east??? NFC East? That's STILL a lot of travel. And you would only have 6-8 games against them. How in the world would the team be able to handle flying to San Fran, and then returning the next week to play KC?

Also to wonder, how in the world would the team sign decent free agents?!?! Who would want to travel that much during the season? No decent player who has options in other, closer cities.

and let's not even get into the taxation issue.....

Another minor issue, the field is torn UP when they play a game there. Just imagine trying to play 10 games there. They would have to convince them to switch to fake grass or it simply won't work. And I'd imagine the British wouldn't appreciate their soccer teams playing on fake stuff.
