No. 1 Pitt defeats FSU volleyball

The No. 22 Florida State volleyball team (18-7, 10-5) fell to No. 1 Pitt (24-1, 14-1) in three sets (18-25, 15-25, 15-25) on Friday night in Fitzgerald Fieldhouse.

Pitt kicked off the first set with the early lead until Taylor Head earned a key kill to make the match 6-2 in favor of the Panthers. Senior Audrey Koenig earned back-to-back kills later in the set to cut the Pitt lead to 17-10. The Panthers would go on to win the first set 25-18.

Florida State responded with an early 6-5 lead in the second set after a kill by Khori Louis. The Panthers dominated the second set as they went on to win 25-15.

The Seminoles went on a 4-0 run in the third set to cut the Panther led to 9-10. However, the Pitt offense went on a couple runs, helping the Panthers secure the 25-15 third set and victory.

Offensively, the Seminoles earned 27 kills and 7 blocks. Koenig led the offensive effort with 11 kills and one ace. Sophomore Kyleene Filimaua secured five kills, four digs, and two blocks on the night.

The Seminoles will be back in action this Sunday as they travel to SMU at 2 p.m. on ACCNX.
