The No. 4 Florida State beach volleyball team finished day one of the Unconquered Invitational 3-0 on Friday. The Seminoles now hold a season record of 23-5.
In the opening match, Florida State defeated UNF by a final score of 4-1. Just as the Ospreys earned their point on court five, FSU won court four in two quick sets. As Florida State gained the advantage by winning court three, seniors Alli Hansen and Taylor Head went into a third set. Hansen and Head would earn a 15-9 victory that gave the Noles the match-deciding point.
Florida State then took the court to play No. 14 FIU. Carra Sassack and Kaileigh Truslow would strike first, winning court five in two quick sets. On court four, Makenna Wolfe and Maddie Truslow would drop a tight first set, but come back to win two straight sets and win the court in a gritty performance. Audrey Koenig and Raelyn White would make quick work of the Panthers on court three, winning the match 21-10, 21-9. Halfway through the first set on court one, the Seminoles would medically forfeit, giving the Panthers their point. Hansen and Head would then win the final match of the duel that was highlighted by an exciting second set that would end with a score of 23-21.
The Seminoles’ final match of the day was against North Alabama. Kaeli Crews would make her first appearance of the day and make a large impact on the match. Crews and Truslow would win the first match of the duel in two sets. Hansen and Head would then win out on court two, claiming the match 21-19, 21-16. Koenig and White would then win out as well, while Anderson and Durish almost simultaneously won court one. McKenna Flaherty and Arianna Bergner would then complete the sweep, winning court five 21-14, 21-16. Following the duel, Florida State recognized its eight seniors as part of senior weekend.
Florida State opens play on Saturday against UAB at 10:15 a.m. The Seminoles will then finish the weekend against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 2:45 p.m. Live stats will be available on Seminoles.com.
