For you next venture into the Big Easy, I highly recommend Turkey & the Wolf. http://www.turkeyandthewolf.com

It's just a small sandwich place in the Irish Channel. Really eclectic hipster-type place, but really awesome. This place and Shaya are now my two favorite restaurants.

I'll keep that in mind when I'm there next month. I haven't been to either.

I think Shaya, Le Petit Grocery and Peche are by far the best restaurants in NOLA. Cochon Butcher, Turkey & the Wolf and Part & Parcel are the best casual restaurants.

I have wanted to try Shaya.

The pomegranate lacquered leg of lamb with the accompaniments of hummus, tabouleh and preserved veggies was amazing....and completely different that the traditional foods in NOLA.

I just booked flights to NOLA for 10/10-10/12 for a convention..Have not been to NOLA since 99. Recommendations for hotel? Going with gf. Best to stay near Convention Center or French Qtr? Looking for 4 or 5*

I either stay in just across Canal near the French Quarter or in the French Quarter but usually away from Bourbon Street. The three hotels I've liked the best are the Roosevelt (the best bar in New Orleans is its Sazerac Bar and considering the large number of amazing bars in NOLA that's saying something...get the sazerac, a Ramos Gin Fizz and one of their newer cocktails and you'll be happy for the night), the Bourbon Orleans (pretty centrally located in the French Quarter and historic as well as famously haunted BUT the breakfast is terrible as its bar) and the Hotel Monteleone (located right at the top of the French Quarter but also relatively easy walking distance to the casino and has a famous bar, the Carousel Bar, which is almost on par with the Sazerac Bar and one of my usual stops for their Vieux Carre cocktail I'm pretty certain they invented even if I don't stay at the Hotel).

thanks..I was looking at the Hotel Monteleone so you just confirmed my thoughts on that one..thank you

Is your convention at the convention center? There is a Marriott across the street from the convention center, the Marriott Renaissance Arts is a couple blocks away. If you are not wedded to an awards system, the Harrahs is right around the corner

Yes it is at Convention Center. I will use Chase Sapphire Points so I can go to any hotel. Just have not been to NOLA in so long not sure if it is better to be near the Conv Center/Harrahs or French Qtr area. We typically prefer nice restaurants and good drinks and maybe live music.

Best live music is on Frenchmen Street so not that close to the rest of the action, but it is close for a cab, uber or even pedocab.

As far as restaurants there are great ones all over the city especially in the Garden District. There are good options in the French Quarter as well.

I would say the Hotel Monteleone may be your best bet as it's near at the tip of the French Quarter but not close enough to Bourbon Street to be bothered by noise and it's an easy walking distance to the casino and Jackson Square.

Lately, I have been staying at either the Renaissance Arts on Tchoupatoulis which is nice. There is a decent restaurant inside and it is walking distance to Emeril's, Cochon, Cochon Butcher, Herb Saint and the Queen & Crescent which is a boutique hotel on Camp in the CBD, between Poydras Canal -- a closer walk to FQ. The Westin at One Canal would be a good place for you to stay.

Thank you guys..I booked the Hotel Monteleone.. We stayed at a similar looking hotel in Zermatt Switzerland that she liked so I figured this would get me points as well. Now the fun comes of 2 nights in NO. I gonna eat like a fat kid on thanksgiving.

I'm staying at the Q&C in November while working a conference at Le Meridien. Looking forward to it.
