On internet articles these days. Anybody else? Don't these people proof read their stuff? I mean I make a lot of errors on the boards but I'm typing on a phone and typically distracted when I'm doing it...

They may be doing it from their phone too. But because I make many errors myself in grammar and spelling especially when in a rush, as long as I can easily make out what they are saying, it doesn't bother me too much. As I know they are probably in some sort of a rush/time crunch to meet a deadline or be first to publish a story.

I see it too. It's quite prevalent.

People seem to care less about it. I'm not sure if is because of the massive change in how we communicate or simply laziness. My guess is that as we communicate more frequently in writing (text/email, etc.) but more informally, we just get in the habit of not caring as long as the recipient understands our message.

I agree. I have my BA in English Education, so seeing some of the errors I see gets to me occasionally.

I understand message board grammar; it doesn't need to be proper. We're in an informal setting and most of us are texting from phones. However, if you're publishing an article on a news site - or any site, really - they need to take those few extra seconds to proof it. That's my opinion.

As far as informal communication, as long as the message intended is received by the intended, no harm no foul.

I'm amazed at hoe many basic spelling and grammar errors I see in articles on sites like CNN.com, ESPN.com, etc. I don't know if they've just completely given up on review and editing since it's only on the internet, or what.

Well, even someone at the top not too long ago pointed out "childrens do learn when standards are high and results are measured."

Your and you're and there, their and they're are commonly used incorrectly and that drives me nuts, especially if I know that the user is educated.

These mistakes were common on Facebook and texting, but I see it everywhere now. When ESPN will show a Tweet from someone who is trying to make a statement, I laugh when I see that they can't even use basic English correctly so how am I supposed to take them seriously?

A lot of former bloggers and run of the mill website operators getting jobs for major companies now. These former informal "writers" don't have backgrounds in journalism or lit degrees, just hammering away on a keyboard like most of us schmucks.

Maybe we should create a group to police this problem. I wonder what we could call them?

I'm not saying they need to be policed I'm just saying you see more and more internet articles with more and more spelling and BAD grammatical errors. No wonder this country is circling the bowl...

I'm on the board of a local organization, and the emails I get from a couple other officers drive me nuts. With one of my degrees being in English, the lack of capitalization and punctuation bothers me; but the weird syntax I get makes no sense. I get tired of rereading emails trying to figure out what the heck they are trying to say.

I hear you, just being a smart aleck. My kids definitely take a different approach to grammar and writing than I did when I was their age.

I see errors in stories on major websites and it is a bit annoying. I think all the websites are in such a rush to be the first to post a story that they do not take the time to review and many just assume that spell check will take care of any spelling errors.
