I think it's fair to say that when you are the only big time program in your geographic region, you could literally keep a pedophile on staff for 30 years and the school, community and state will do everything to protect you.

But if you run a program where you share a region with at least 8 programs and a another conference, if you farted in the direction of a recruits mother, everyone and their mother is going to hear about it and blast you on the interwebz. Cervone and the other bull gators could only protect Myer for so long...

I wonder if Woody suffered from PTSD due to his time in WW2? I can barely recall him as a head coach and do not know what made his teams so good. But he was known for flying off the handle in an uncontrollable way during periods of high stress which let to his dismissal after punching the Clemson player in the throat on the sideline. He had punched many of his own players over the years too and Lou Holtz admitted to be grabbed in a choke hold and slung against the locker while playing for him.

All joking aside most big 10 schools have a monopoly on talent. urban found a place that if he wins a title every 10 years or so, goes .500 against Bitchigan and goes no worse than 9-3 every year they/he will be fine. OSU will also do their best to cover things up to protect their program. No big deal but that is what happens up there in the big 10. Just look at their coaches and programs; you got urbie who is a joke, franklin who covered up a gang rape to insure he got a big time job, and of course Harbaugh who doesn't have a negative mark yet, but he is also not doing so well against the programs he has to beat. It sure helps that you get the slightly smaller love affair from espn that the sec gets. You don't have to agree, but the bottom line is teh big 10 covers up their issues very well.
