FSU rallied from behind to score 14 points in the final 10 minutes of play to beat Southern Miss in the season opener.

This year the Noles had 9 All-American's including Ron Simmons who made 1st Team AA with 8 different organizations.

FSU went on that year to beat the hurricanes, gators and 3 SEC teams climbing into the top 5 in the country before falling to Heisman winner Billy Sims of Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl 24-7 (helped by turnovers).
