Thinking of going this summer with the fam. The Mariott is under construction so we can't stay there but what are your thoughts? We typically go to Destin, Hilton Head, or Singer Island.

Wifey and daughter just back from a girls trip with two others. They stayed at the Charter Club and had a great time. Me and the dawg had a relaxing week as well...

My parents live on Isle of Capri and the golf club they are members of is owned by the Marriott. The construction I believe is only one side. It is by far the nicest hotel there, and has the best beach there as well. The island is a great place to get away. Not much to do other than beach and relax, which is what I like. Golf is good, but pricey and really hot in the summer.

Marriott is awesome. Went back to back years for a big work meeting. It's a great inclusive type resort. Park the car and stay all week. Everything including food is on site. Loved it.

Try the Hilton...nice property...recently renovated...coolers on beach are permitted...nice place. A few hundred yards south of the Marriott..

Honestly, people like Tribe could probably give you a dozen better recommendations within an hour drive, but I've enjoyed it there.

It's definitely not secluded, but the beach is nice. I've only stayed at the Marriott. Not a lot of night life, but there is a neat little restaurant area with a tiny movie theater within walking distance. The beachside bar at the Marriott is solid.

I grew up there in the 60's and 70's. Not that I'd recognize it now. Nice beach, though. Stan's Idle Hour in Goodland (south end the island) is a local landmark and worth a visit.

321Nole is correct in that I think there are better places in that area in particular Barefoot Beach about an hour north (the state park is one of the best and probably the best beach not in the panhandle and there's plenty of hiking trails and kayaking on the opposite side of the island, plus there's resort areas to stay in nearby the state park) and a LOT better places in the panhandle, but Marco Island is nice enough. It's too overpopulated for my tastes and doesn't have any distinguishing features to differentiate it from dozens of similar places in Southwest Florida but if you're just looking to relax and sit on a white sand beach that's not secluded then it's fine.

But truthfully, if I were planning a vacation in the area I would set my home base in the Bonita Springs/Barefoot Beach area. It's close enough to both Naples and Ft Myers that you can hit up some of the great things to do in that area plus not that far (1.5 hours) from Sarasota.

The problem with both Ft Myers but especially Naples is that there's not really enough quality things to do in either area to have an amazing vacation. But if you split the difference (Bonita Springs/Barefoot) then you can spend a day or two in each and maybe even hop up to Sarasota to see the second best museum (after the Dali) in Florida at the Ringling and grab some grub at the best Amish place I've been to even over those in PA and Ohio, Yoders.

Haven't been since the Hilton or Marriott (can't remember which bought it out) was Adam's Mark. I remember it being a great beach.
