Only posting on this site since Freeman lost a ring last night, but the OT rule in the NFL is a joke and just plan wrong. Name another sport where a one team might not even get a chance to score if the game is tied at the end of regulation. There isn't any and a coin toss and a worn out Atlanta D means NE wins the Super Bowl.

Yes it is slightly better since the put the FG rule in effect, but they need to play 2 quarters to truly make it a fair contest. The quarters could be less then 15 minutes, but should make sure each team gets a chance to score points. I didn't have a dog in the fight so I didn't care who won, but when one team never even gets to run a play on offense something is wrong.

Nah... Before they changed it I would agree with you, but if you let up a touchdown you deserve to lose

Saying both teams HAVE to possess the ball essentially devalues defense relative to offense. Honestly, if you kickoff in overtime and get a 3 and out, you have a chance to be in really good field position for a game winning field goal. If you get smashed sans lubricant all the way down the field for a TD you can't complain.

ATL defense holds the to 3 and out and forces NE to punt, they turn the field and we are telling a different story today.

Well when you lead by 25 points and you lose, I don't think OT should even be discussed. You can call this the greatest comeback or the worst choke in history. I guess the only way to make it equal would be to do it just like college or play another 15:00 minute quarter and if at the end of that if still tied, next team that scores wins.

Atlanta lost that game, they shouldn't have been in OT. As for the rule goes, if you are playing in the Superbowl, your defense should be able to make a stop. People just complain about the rule when things don't go their way.

I am not perceiving any logic in saying a FG by the team possessing the ball first gives the other team an op to score but a TD does not.
