According to Pro Football Focus statistics, Jacques Patrick:
- Leads all returning ACC backs in most yards after contact, per attempt, at 4.03 yards. Numbers 2 & 3 averaged 3.95 & 3.43. Yeah, he averaged 0.6 more yards after contact per attempt than the 3rd best returning ACC back.
- Leads all returning ACC backs in "elusive rating", a statistic that measures missed tackles caused and yards after contact. His rating was 117.9, compared to 68.4 for the 2nd place RB.
I'll admit this, his sample size is smaller than others in the conference; however, to counter, Patrick actually gets stronger with more carries. When he hits 20+ carries, he averages 6.5 ypc. When he hits double digit carries, his average is well into the 5 ypc, & when he gets single digit carries his average is around 4.7.
All things considered, he was more than serviceable as Dalvin's backup &, despite Tribal Council's rather mundane opinion of him, he is poised to be a very good back for us this season.
