Heading up from S. Florida on Friday and coming back Sunday. We are staying south of Tally and because of FAMU Homecoming, we are going to the game and getting the heck out of Tally right after the game. Every nook and cranny there will be packed. Anyone have any good spots for dinner Saturday night outside and south of Tally? I don't see much online. Steak and seafood sound about right.

By south do you mean south south like Carrabelle, Crawfordville, Wakulla and St Marks? Or east and then south like Perry?

If you mean Perry then Goodman's BBQ is one of the best of not the best in the state and its maybe a third the price of 4 Rivers in Tally. And oddly enough considering the town is the most redneck of any decent size towns/small cities in Tallahassee outside of the Okeechobee area, the best Italian place in all of North Florida is Mama's in Perry. The best seafood in the area is Deal's Oyster Bar which is low rent but the best oyster bar outside of Apalachicola, Cedar Key and Panama City that I've found. No decent steak that I'm aware of as I believe Chaparalls is permanently closed.

If you mean the coastal area south of Tally, then Hammanknockers is the best in the area although their only really good item imo is the bbq smoked wings. Their ribs are just ok and their other meats are below Sonnys level but their smoked wings are usually exceptional. There's not amazing seafood until you hit Apalachicola where there's a ton of amazing places (Boss Oyster is my fave), but there's a lot of decent to good places all around Crawfordille to St Marks and over to Carrabelle like Ouzts Too, Poseys, Tropical Trader Shrimp Company, Angelos, Spring Creek, and Seineyard. As far as steak...I'm not aware of any steak places in the area either but Im not looking for it on the coast. I would say that I believe Wakulla Lodge has steaks to go with really great prime rib and fried chicken but I've only has the prime rib and chicken.

We are staying in St. Marks. The closest I could find was some places in Panacea. A big concern for us is whether smoking is allowed so that generally rules out any sort of outside eating venues.

We always stay in St. Marks. Awesome B&B there. We are in the quieter crowd not looking to get loaded and act crazy after a game.

I gave Wakulla Lodge a quick call as they were still on my cell after I put my sister up there a few weeks ago and they said they DO have prime graded steaks both filets and ribeyes on the menu. I personally love their quail and fried chicken so that's what I've always gotten but my wife has had their prime rib in the past and it's excellent.

This sounds like a winner then. The wife doesn't like football. She will sit there reading a book on her phone the entire game so I want to at least take her out for a nice evening afterwards. Big thanks for your help!!

Keep the wife away from all the besotted real estate guys at the FSU RE Conference.

Conference Itinerary:
Thursday -
Pretend you're 21 till 2 AM, or 3 AM
Friday - Pretend you're a millionaire (some actually are so they won't be pretending)
Saturday - Recover from Thursday and Friday, gout's a MF'er, while taking in a game.
