Mike Norvell is here.

Said it was good to get out in Doak Campbell, under the lights, trying to simulate the ND game in two weeks from today.
Said they played over a full half, and then got into some unexpected situations in the third quarter.
"Marcus Cushnie did some good things, Patrick Payton I'm excited about where he's coming."

Said there were too many drops early in the scrimmage.
"I thought the quarterbacks did a good job tonight. Really all of them had explosive plays." Said they took a good step, showed some maturity, got the ball out quicker.

"I'm excited about what I'm seeing."
They'll be off for tomorrow for first day of school, says this week will be a modified game week and get an early introduction into Notre Dame. "I like where we're heading. I don't think there were any significant injuries tonight, which is a good thing." Says they should get some more guys back this week."

On the O-line: "We're getting better. ... I think Robert Scott has had a remarkable camp. He's moved over to the left side and that's something he's really taken to. ... The continuity of the group is something we're still pushing." Says some guys have been out with some bumps and bruises and that's actually helped the development of the group. "I think it has a chance to be much improved from where we've been."

Says D.J. Williams started scrimmage "off with a bang." Had a couple of big runs to start the night. "Definitely a real positive addition to our running back group. ... He's definitely playing at a much higher level."

Says he thinks WRs are an exciting group.
"Andrew Parchment was a guy tonight, had an early drop, kind of got down on himself, but came back with a touchdown catch a little bit later in the quarter .... you see guys like Keyshawn Helton and Ontaria Wilson who are playing a high level. ... Kentron had a couple of nice plays and also had a couple of negative plays that we can't have."

Says he thinks the reps the younger guys are getting at QBs with the 1s has been big for the development. Says that was still the case tonight.

Says LB Cortez Andrews got extensive action and wants to watch the film to see how he played.
Said Kevin Knowles had another good night tonight at corner.
Also said freshman Shyheim Brown had yet another interception.
Said Jordan Wilson has been held back a little this past week but came out and got some good reps tonight.

On naming starting QB: "We're closer (to naming starting QB). We're going to keep watching practice. ... I'm really pleased with what I see from that group." ... In other words, he ain't answering that question.

"I thought the offense did a good job of moving the ball. We held some of the guys on the defensive front" ... wanted to get guys in the second group up front to get reps.
Said the backups did a nice job, but didn't create a ton of explosive defensive plays.

"It was good to see the offense get some sustained drive even in some poor situations that were presented."

Says Fitz is having a great camp at kicker and Groathaus is doing well, too. Said Mastromanno has had a great camp at punter.

On the offense: "I thought yesterday morning, Friday, we're seeing that growth. When you have younger receivers, protection being a part of it, ... you love to see that development as you're going through. Being two weeks in, it's time. ... We threw the ball as well as we have in yesterday's practice. You're starting to see those guys starting to emerge. ... It's a fun thing when you don't see a huge difference (with the quarterbacks ... and the way the offense functions) ... We did have some mishaps in dropped passes that we've got to clean up just to maintain that consistency."

That's a wrap for Norvell.
We'll be getting all three coordinators here in a few moments.

Kenny Dillingham is up first.

On young WRs: "They've done a great job. ... Nobody cares where you came from, nobody cares if you've been out and had twisted ankles. Nobody cares. .. When you're out on the field you've got to execute and make plays. ...

On O-line: "I thought they did really well (tonight). I think that group is growing, and the more reps they get the better they get. ... I think the unit is starting to get comfortable with each other, and that's what you look for. ... I'm very very pleased with how they've progressed."

On D.J. Williams: "He looks so much faster, so much quicker. He looks like the guy I coached before he got here ... he's just another example of guys buying in. ... That's a guy that I've seen produce at a high level and I'm very, very pleased with him."

On Markeston Douglas: "He dropped the weight and starting to come on and come on every single day. Just gets a little bit better and a little bit better. Just pleased with his progression ... he's going to help us at some point."

On Parchment: "Every rep is a learning experience. ... He's learning by fire and trial by fire. ... I will say, that's a kid ... he's intelligent. He's smart, likes ball and he cares. ... he doesn't make the same mistake twice. That's the key to playing early and the key to playing as a transfer."

He said day by day they get closer to naming a starting quarterback. But as you can guess, no such announcement will be made tonight.

John Papuchis is up next.

Says competition has been good at placekicker, but he thinks he has a good idea who it's going to end up being. "I think we're getting closer." Says in the next 3 or 4 days they might have a definitive announcement.

Says Mastromanno feels really confident right now. "Having a whole season of experience playing American football obviously helps him. ... I don't think he's scratched the surface of how good he can be."

On return game: "I think return game is starting to shape up well. ... I thought last 3 or 4 days we got some really good work ... I like where we're at."

On Cushnie: "I thought Marcus flashed tonight. He made some plays. ... For him, it's a matter of how quick can we get him prepared? Because he's only been with us for a couple of weeks ... I think he'll be a guy that will be able to make an impact for us this fall."

Says he thinks some of the younger guys will be able to make an immediate impact on special teams.

That's a wrap for Papuchis.

Adam Fuller is up next.

"Some guys are a little bit banged up, some guys have locked in roles already." On why some of the starting defensive line didn't do much tonight. Says he wanted to make sure the back-ups got some real, live work in the scrimmage, to see what they have behind the veterans.

Says Travis Jay continues to grow and is someone they're really counting on.

Kevin Knowles "all he's done is play really hard and make the plays that come his way. He played corner tonight. He's done a nice job."

Said Patrick Payton has shown some flashes. Mentions George Wilson and Hunter Washington as guys that have stood out as well.

"Shyheim Brown has flashed, we're asking him to do a lot of things."

Says they're playing 3, 2 and 1 linebacker systems right now. "Amari has come along and we're trying to put him in the right situations ... D.J. Lundy has really taken some strides since last year." .... "That group is coming. Kalen Deloach is probably someone that has made the most strides since the end of last year."

Says Fabien Lovett is in the best shape he's ever seen him.
Says Briggs belongs inside, says he's disruptive. "That's exactly where he's supposed to play. ... I like Dennis, I think Dennis has a great upside. This is a huge year. In order for our D-line to play well, Dennis Briggs has to play at an extremely high level ... we're going to count on him to make the plays that are necessary at that position."

More on Travis Jay: "We put Travis at corner. ... I think the corners have to be your most competitive athletic players ... it gave us a chance to hone in on him playing that position. That's the direction we went. And it's felt right the last week and a half." Says he's developed a good relationship with Brownlee.

On Jarrett Jackson: "We're counting on Fabien, Dennis and Coop to be good football players, and guys that can play a lot of snaps ... Jarrett should be with that group. ... When you just watch him when he's fresh, he flashes. He's so big, he's got good athleticism. ... He belongs with those guys from a size, athleticism standpoint. ... I think Jarrett has a bright future ... if he can take that next step it gives you the depth you want."

Says its really important to get the depth chart settled as much as possible here soon. "I think it needs to be set, so guys understand roles and understand what they need to be prepared to do."

That's a wrap for Fuller and that's a wrap for tonight.

Thanks everyone!
