Turnovers, miscues doom FSU in 20-14 loss to Arizona State

GAME UPDATES:

FINAL: ASU 20, FSU 14. The 'Noles turned it over six times.

Arizona State 20, FSU 14, 10:06 left -- Well, Blackman throws his third INT, and this one goes back for a touchdown. Looked like miscommunication between him and McKitty, based on sideline conversations after the play. ASU goes for two, and gets it.

FSU 14, Arizona State 12, 12:02 left -- Zendejas hits his fourth field goal. Drive went 12 plays, 59 yards but the FSU defense turned them away again in the red zone.

FSU 14, Arizona State 9, 1:04 left third quarter -- Blackman hits Terry for a 91-yard touchdown pass. That's the longest TD pass in Sun Bowl history.

Arizona State 9, FSU 7, 3:17 left in third quarter -- Nice dove for the 'Noles. 11 plays, 91 yards. Some nice plays by Jordan Travis to get the offense going. Ontaria Wilson scores the TD on an end-around.

----

Early third quarter, still not much doing for the offense. Arizona State has the ball around midfield with less than 8 minutes left.

------

HALFTIME -- Arizona State 9, FSU 0.

ASU 9, FSU 0, 4:33 left in second quarter: Another ASU field goal after another Blackman interception.

ASU 6, FSU 0, 7:58 left in second quarter: ASU hits a 77-yard screen to get down in scoring territory, but the defense holds them to another field goal.

---
8-84.

Another rough possession for the offense. Nice punt by Tommy Martin, ASU whiffs on the catch and it allows FSU to pin it inside the 10.

-------------

End of the first quarter: Arizona State 3, FSU 0.

-------------

ASU 3, FSU 0. 3:57 left in first quarter --
Arizona State gets on the board first with a 40-yard field goal. Nice job by the Seminoles' defense there. Sun Devils went backward for minus-9 yards after getting ball at the 13.

-------------

FSU gets the ball back inside its own 20, and Blackman fumbles at his own 13. ASU gets the ball right there. That's Blackman's second turnover.

---------------

FSU settles for a field goal attempt, and it's blocked by ASU. Worse news ... OL Dontae Lucas got rolled up on the play and sustained what appears to be a serious injury. About half the FSU team has jogged across the field to the cart to offer support to Lucas. ASU coach Herm Edwards came from the other sideline and did the same. ... Arizona State takes over at own 34.

------------

Blackman knocked down with a pretty big hit. Going to the injury tent, likely checking for concussion. Jordan Travis in at QB.

----

Welp. FSU gets a first down inside the 3 after the ASU turnover. Then on second-and-goal from the 1, Blackman throws an INT. Returned to the ASU 29. Sheffield saved it from being a pick-six.

---

Nice start for the 'Noles. Arizona State fumbles first play. Recovered by Gainer at the ASU 13.

---

Arizona State gets the ball first.

---

FSU captains are Blackman, Durden and Aguayo.

----

Coach Norvell was down on the field for part of pregame warmups. Just observing.

--

Judging by pregame warmups, looked like Warner and Rice were starting at LB. Looked like Bolden starting at corner with SSIII out.

Does look like it will be Roberts at LT and Scott at RT.

----

Team going through warmups in uniform now. FSU wearing white tops and gold pants.

Looked like Boselli was snapping to Blackman, so he could be the starter at center.

----

Several Arizona State players were out there like 2 1/2 hours before the game warming up. FSU guys arrived about 2 hours before as usual.

Odell did the chop with some FSU fans in the end zone.

Ryan Roberts is taking his pregame lap around the field in shorts and no shirt. It's 42 degrees.

---------

Here's a few notes from the flip card:

Interesting ... they have Ryan Roberts listed as the starter at LT instead of RT. And Brady Scott starting at RT.

They have Carlos Becker listed at the safety spot Hamsah normally plays, with his top backup being Raymond Woodie.

They still have Stanford Samuels at corner, so guess that didn't get updated. Would expect Isaiah Bolden and AJ Lytton to get a lot of looks there.

The RBs are listed as Deonte Sheffield and Treshaun Ward, as we expected.

----

Good morning! Here at Sun Bowl Stadium. Will have updates shortly. Just a reminder that game time is 2 p.m. ET on CBS.

It's a beautiful day. Chilly but hardly a cloud in the sky.
