UCF Declares themselves National Champions

I guess if Alabama can claim their 1941 title, and Kentucky and Oklahoma State can both give themselves titles from like 60 years ago this year, then I've got no problem with UCF claiming this.

Actually I think the committee does a pretty good job. Definitely got the correct 4 this year.

Good for them. I was happy the way Frost handled everything and stayed for the bowl game. I'm willing to bet they end up in the top 3 AP poll.

Yes...I feel like you should at least have to win your division or conference title to be in the playoffs. They did neither.

The funny thing is they also just announced that they're throwing a National Title Celebration parade down Main Street of the Magic Kingdom. They're not just putting up banners, they're throwing a damn parade.

I do think it's really nice that the school has decided to pay the coaches the bonuses defined in their contracts that they would have gotten had they actually won the title. I thought that was a pretty stand up thing to do.

They were a fun team to watch. No quit in that crowd.
It wasn’t so long ago that there were multiple teams crowned in a given year. AP and UPI did not always agree.

Because it is football, I agree. However, in basketball, it seems that not only do we have regular season winner, conference tourney winner and a National title winner. So, perhaps we just go to 68 and let everyone over .500 in.

I doubt UCF has many future opportunities to do this, so I say go for it.

Yep....'61 & '73. ...But in their defense, both the AP and UPI awarded the first one and the UPI the second.

This will give teams like UCF a chance to make the playoffs. Until then, UCF needs to schedule a tough nonconference opponent.

Yes, I agree. It's kind of like us celebrating being "state champs" and ordering rings for the players.

I guess I’ll just have to drive up to Disney World for the parade where everyone’s dreams come true, except any parent who brought kids there under the age of six....EVER.

They just lost their awesome coach, they can't compete with multi-million dollar facilities, they can't compete for coaches based on salary, no one is going to schedule them, their recruiting budget is limited, etc. So they spend some cash on bonuses showing good coaches some love and setting a standard; they also show recruits something cool. Does it mean 5 stars will be lining up to sign with them, no; but maybe it keeps a 3 or 4 star home locally instead of leaving for an out of state school. They are also all over the news; which wouldn't be happening without this celebration.

I think this is the first time we've agreed on something. At first I thought it was stupid, but now I love it. It doesn't hurt that I live in Alabama territory. I might buy one of the shirts just to annoy the hell out of Alabama fans should they win.
