If as Tallahassee Democrat columnist, Corey Clark suggested in today's paper that perhaps Jimbo has not been pleased with the overall play of both Maguire or Golson, then I'd like to suggest two theories.
1) Golson is still learning the playbook, formations and all the reads, along with timing of working with a whole new cast of players.
2) Maquire-- who struggled when pressured in the spring game has continued to have problems when pressured. During the spring game his accuracy and decision making literally collapsed in the 2nd half despite his experience in the system. Sean, in the 1st half showed a strong arm in the pocket but appears uncomfortable if he has to move outside of the pocket. The best QB in the spring game by a big margin was true freshman, DJ Johnson ( no longer on the team ).
My gut tells me that Jimbo in all likelihood already knows who his QB will be. Even if SMAG, due to his seniority gets the opening game nod, Golson will be the guy that Jimbo gives the keys to before we face Clemson and likely USF. Golson's ability to make things happen when pocket protection breaks down makes him the best choice with a young team.
