Just got one today for an inadvertent "Reply All" screw up sent to about 25 people. Whenever I see a "____ would like to recall" I immediately go and read the original email, even if I wasn't intending to read it in the first place.

When and how does this recall function ever work?

I do the same thing.

One way it works successfully is if you open the recall notification you get and agree to it, it removes the email from your inbox.

The other way it works is if someone is not currently logged into the exchange server and they recall it before they log back into it, I believe it will also work in that scenario also.
