I didn't know his real name, but definitely his face. Grew up watching him on Benson.

He actually was in a few sitcoms from the '70s. He had a cameo as a doctor in an episode of All In the Family.

And let's not forget where the Benson character originated: Soap.

He also had roles in The Jeffersons, Good Times, Sanford and Son...basically all of the black 70s sitcoms.

Benson was a breakthrough show that people too often forget about. Main character was an African American male who was the smartest character on the show. He started out as head of housekeeping and ended up LT Governor. One of my faves.
