Scott Boyer of Cowboy has passed away. Cowboy was a great Country Rock group from the early 70’s made up primarily of guys that went to FSU. He was a roommate of Butch Trucks at Fl State. Other members of the band also attended FSU. They originally formed The Bitter Ind, which played around Tallahassee. Trucks later joined the Allman Bros. Cowboy toured with the Allman Bros. for years.

I played with the Bitter Ind in 1966. the 4th member of the group was Dave Brown. All of us were were from Jacksonville and Dave, Scott, and Butch went to high school together. Scott played a 12-string electric guitar and was really good folk singer. He and Butch did an incredible job harmonizing on Simon and Garfunkel and Byrds numbers. Brown also had a tremendous voice allowing them to do 3-part harmonies. Me, I was the least talented but had the equipment. In short, had a ball, graduated, and closed a great chapter of my life. If I am not mistaken, we spelled Bitter with i making it Bittir due to a club in New York called the Bitter Ind.

That’s a great story. I never got to hear them but heard they were really good. I thought Cowboy was vastly underrated. I used to know Pete Kowalke who was in Cowboy, and who also went to FSU.

Where did y'all go to high school? I am guessing somewhere on the other side of the ditch? (Not a put down!)

I grew up on the Southside around that time, but like a lot of Jax kids went to the venues where the usual local bands like the Illusions and Mouse and the Boys were playing.

hi goldie. scott, butch, and dave went to Englewood I believe. I went to lee. I was a senior and they were freshmen when we played together at fsu. I knew many members of other jax bands since we would sit in for each other if anyone was short a member. knew mouse (Maurice) and a couple of members of his group as well the bass player for the illusions whom I played with earlier. former lt. governor bobby Brantley was drummer with the Dalton gang and the allman joys before they became the allman brothers band. remember the j-notes, 5 knights, revlons, etc. ah goldie, fun times. aren't you a Kenny gal??

I am a BK girl - IIRC it was Ricky Bennett from BK who was in the Illusions and then went to FSU and was in SAE. Guy in my brothers BK class was in Lynyrd Skynrd.
Went to EVERY dance at Southside Women's Club, Riverside (so sad to see it go) and at the old Beach Center. Fun times for sure. Made me a party girl forever!

think leonard skinnerd was the strict pe teacher at lee hs who the group was named after. ask your brother if this is correct. did not know ricky Bennett. when you say the beach center, do you mean the old band shell?

No there was a civic center built in mid-60's. Since torn down. Swinging Medallions used to play there. Good times!

one of my favorite bands of all time was the swinging medallions and used to go crazy when they played double shot of my baby's love. used to see them in panama city beach at a place called the beach party.
