Rise of Skywalker

Just got back from the 9pm showing. I will have to see it again but right now I'm 50/50. Definitely didn't leave the theater thinking it was amazing.

Actually I need to get this off my chest. SPOILER ALERT
SPOILER ALERT
SPOILER ALERT

Why was ghost Yoda not in the film? JJ had all these corny cameo's but couldn't bring ghost Yoda out? That was one of my favorite scenes in TLJ.

I liked it. Tied up some loose ends. They recreated some iconic shots.

Here’s what chapped my ass (SPOILER ALERT):

1. The emporer’s demise was way to easy. Lazy writing. They built up his return and he died in a lame ass way.
2. Why the hell did we have to the Kylo /Ben kissing thing? Further, if you’re doing the redemption arc with him then killing him off immediately after saving Rey was kind of unnecessary.
3. Agreed on the Yoda thing.

Here’s what I was thrilled about:

CHEWIE FINALLY GOT HIS DAMN MEDAL! That’s bugged me for years.

It was better than I thought it would be. I thought they did a good job writing Carrie Fisher in from the old footage. The last 20 minutes kinda screwed up the momentum from the first 2 hours. It was certainly a better effort than the last film.

I went into it expecting an FSU football season from the last few years and I think it score a 7-8 win season for me. Went in with low expectations.

Me the wife, 2 kids and 5 nieces are going tomorrow...……...………………..I kina already know many of the details but Disney has ruined Star Wars as we know it. This should have been an EPIC finish to the Skywalker saga but its totally stupid to end the way it ended if the rumors are true.

I'll give my input Sunday after seeing it Saturday night

It was entertaining and that is really all it needed to be. Be warned it is a long movie with some low points but a lot more fun parts too. You could have split the movie into two parts with all the action crammed in. I avoided any spoilers in this movie and did not put much thought about what direction they would go with this arc. My expectations as others have said were low going into this movie and it delivered far above what I though it would. I would give it somewhere between a B to a B+.

Just saw it. B- for me. SPOILERS....

1) the Reylo kiss... Ugh. I literally did a face palm
2) Rey as a Palpatine... So, Episode 8 was totally unnecessary. I also literally did another face palm.
3) the lesbian kiss... Ugh
4) no Yoda ghost = 100% unacceptable
5) integrating Carrie Fisher was very well done, give the limits
6) what was Finn going to tell Rey?
7) lots of fan service here, which was expected and accepted. Liked seeing Han Solo once more.

Well, they failed to explain why they didn’t just send a huge ship into the Death Star (or any other Empire ship/battle station anytime they needed to destroy it prior to end of TLJ) at light speed so........

I'm a casual fan, didn't have any expectations really and thought it was a decent entertaining movie.

One gripe I have about Disney and our political climate is how we have to force diversity into every movie now. The lesbian kiss, really? Just dumb and forced.

So, if Disney had real balls, they'd have had an openly homosexual character, not sneak it in covertly. That was annoying.

Also, how did kylo Ren escape that crashed tie fighter on the desert planet without a scratch?

About 90% of what I've read about IX is negative. I get some of it but really disagree.

I saw it last night and again today. Loved it. I grew up in the 80s, before there were Star Wars Legos, using Space Legos to try to build Star Destroyers. I read Timothy Zahn and painfully endured the prequels.

I'm no fan of Disney but I completely love what they've done to revive Star Wars from its 30-year slump. I'm in the minority probably but VIII and IX are incredibly good Star Wars movies.

I think everyone has had such an imagination and debate about what's happening, that we became attached to all the expectations and theories so were naturally offended by the actual storytelling. Once I let the movies be what they are, especially VIII & IX, Ioved them.

I'm completely satisfied and I'm looking forward to one more trip to Rise of Skywalker in a couple weeks.

Now if Disney will just bring back pre-mastered Original Trilogy and somehow get the old classic FSU logo back while they're at it!

Even Leia flying through space for no reason disagrees with viii being “incredibly good.” That movie was hot garbage and was only better than ep 1 in Star Wars history. I can see people liking ix, it wasn’t bad. Just seemed to have a lot of holes and the emperor/knights of ren were a bit of a let down.

Leia's space flight was weird. Knights of Ren were good at standing around a lot. I'll give you all that. They weren't perfect movies but none of them were crippling to the whole story the way Vader's puny "nooooooo" in Episode III ruined what could've been an amazing moment. And as much as I'm sentimental and appreciate the superior filmmaking of especially Empire, some of the original Trilogy was very slow moving, and most of the prequels were fluff. So I enjoyed the heck out of especially VIII & IX.

Many people never will. Some may, eventually.

Lol, I just happened to watch RotJ yesterday and I forgot about that "Noooooo". Very cringe worthy, I think that was added in the remastered film but I could be wrong.
As for viii, to each their own. I am glad you enjoyed it.

Ok fellas saw it Saturday. Bob Iger chairman at Disney was interviewed recently and basically he said in an interview SCREW THE HARD CORE SW fan and SCREW the George Lucas cannon. They were going to make SW movies for a general casual fan goer. And that's just what this movie was. A cash grab big block buster with explosions, tons of action ect ect just for a general audience…………..

If you're a casual fan you will give this movie a solid B or B plus. If you're a hard core fan into the Jedi vs Sith mythology and the rules set by George Lucas, you'll probably be horrified.

So many rules and plot holes were started with the last jedi well into this film. Episode 9 basically takes a huge defecating crap on Anakin's sacrifice to save Luke. In the prequels the jedi spoke of the prophecy of the chosen 1 to bring balance to the force by destroying the sith once and for all. Well we thought Anakin had done that in ROTJ. Disney said he didn't, basically making the entire first 6 films into "what was all that about".

Someone mentioned above it felt like 2 or 3 movies, that's because the movie was shot into 3 versions. JJ Abrahams, Bob Iger and they asked George Lucas to shoot several scenes. They were all condensed into this movie. That's why the movie has a different tone and feel to it from here to there.

Loved Han's pep talk with Ben
Loved Luke's pep talk with Rey...………….watching Luke raise his XWing out of the ocean was very emotional......……...but wait, remember force ghosts couldn't interfere in the 80s, now they can.

My only last complaints are the lazy film making of bringing Palpatine back, which WAS NOT ORIGINALLY PLANNED. The whole copy cat close of Avengers End game. Think about Captain America when he's about to give up vs Thanos. Same thing here with Po leading the attack on Palpatine's new fleet. No Anakin, no Yoda and I still have no clue why the film is titled Rise of Skywalker. Rey is NOT a Skywalker. I've been to see every SW at least twice in the theater since 77. I saw the last Jedi once and I won't go back to see this one either unless my kids want to see it again. For the close of the Skywalker saga it ended with a thud.

Just my spill

One last thing, not sure why Disney and Marvel are so hell bent on the gay stuff. Why they had to show 2 women deep French kissing at the end just blew me away. I had 7 kids under 12 with me. Maybe Im just too old school.

Thank you! ... and yes, they added the "noooo" to ROtJ just a few years ago. I was mortified! That's my favorite scene in Star Wars, actually one of my favorite movie scenes ever, and they emasculated it! Unbelievable.

Nevertheless, Go Noles! :)

there have been 11 star wars movies. In my humble opinion, and I do hate to say this, but you've got 2 outstanding films, episodes 4 & 5. Ground breaking type stuff. Also, caught a bit of lightning in a bottle with outstanding chemistry between the cast.

The rest of the movies are all slightly above average to bad. All of them. Ep 3? Uh, terrible. Rogue one? Eh. Return of the jedi is the only other movie that is good. The rest suck, and I was entertained @ the force awakens.

I don't think ANY of the movies, outside of the original trilogy, will stand the test of time.

Rogue one is fantastic in my opinion, maybe the best of them all. Its interesting how so many see these movies differently. I loved RotJ as a kid, I saw it in the theater 4 or 5 times. Whether it was Lucas tinkering with it or something else I agree not very good now.

You actually think jyn urso's motivation speech to the whole council is effective? Why would any of them listen to her?

I didn't care about anyone who died... Except the blind dude and the robot.

And I would prob put rogue one as the fifth best, after the original trilogy and the force awakens.

Rogue One was one of my favorites too. I watched it last night again.

I like them all in same way shape or form. Just like some way better than the others. I just can’t find a way to hate anything that makes up the Star Wars universe. Just too big of a part of my childhood. Which is crazy because I’m a grown ass 46 year old man now.

45yo here. And up until episode 9, I was in full agreement. Bu outside of 4 & 5, these movies are just not that great. 1-3 + Solo are flat out bad. The rest are slightly above average and won't hold up.

Thankfully, Rey is a saving grace for me. But even she can't overcome the JJ Abrams curse of superficial GREAT looking and entertaining movies because this shit has zero depth.

Okay, I have to concur with you on the Han Solo movie. Did not like that one that much. I generally can tell which on the series I like by how many times I watch them over. I’ve never made it through Solo a 2nd time.

I’ve watched 1-3 over a few times, but my biggest complaint about those was casting. Natalie Portman and whoever played Anakin were just terrible.

What was the deal with the masked girl who never showed her face? Why? Her name started with Z and I learned she was played by Carrie Russel.

How can you all lovr RO? Her 'speech' was wretchedly awful. Why would ANY of the rebel leaders actually and all of a sudden listen to her?

And grand moff tarkin computer animation was distracting.

And including Darth Vader served no purpose, but was fan service.

Disney was trying DESPERATELY to create a female Boba Fett. She should have been introduced in Ep 8 to give her character a chance to be fleshed out a bit.

Why are people mad about the Rey Ben kiss? Its been building for 3 movies to that moment

What quality did Kylo Ren possess for Rey to be attractive to Rey? Outside of the homicidal acts of terror, I can't see one.

Similar arguments csn and should be made for Padme falling in love with Anakin. There's ZERO basis for a relationship there.

Its not physical or emotional, its a spiritual connection from the rare “force dyad connection.” Nothing they could help.

the Annakin Padme was absurd, there we agree. Cheers

The dyad connection... The thing Palpatine said existed. No one ever mentioned this, not Yoda, kenobi, etc. NO ONE.

Look, was I entertained? Yeah, I guess. But episodes 4 & 5, and even 6 had entertainment PLUS so much more depth of characters, story, and purpose of character actions. 1-3... Uh, didn't have those. 7-9 had so much potential to build and quite honestly, Disney dropped the ball.

Great LOOKING movies, but not much behind that attractive facade, IMO.

I see what you’re saying, we actually said this movie should have been 2 movies as the 16 hours window for all that plot was absurd but, ok. We
Learned the dyad let them fight over the force, Luke short showed that but also new. As was their powers, way more powerful but I was ok with it as they were the last of each order so should be powering all the Jedi and Sith. Plus this was evolved from Star Wars and should be more powerful(sad no Palpatine saber duel), I’d expect the orders rules to also evolve so Palpatine growing that Sith Lord with spare parts seems sensible imho.

That was for the women that got drug along to the Star Wars movies like my wife who predicted it at the end of the last one. I got a “told you so” when it happened. It’s Star Wars. Not a rom com.
