I am sure I will regret this; but what the heck. So my left shoulder is acting worse than usual. Full disclosure I have had 2 surgeries on each shoulder. 1 shoulder for just being tough on my body and the other for an incident overseas. Have had to get occasional steroid shots etc. I have continued to do my T's, I's and Y's since my first surgery. I put them in my work out since my doc and PT said they will keep the smaller muscles strong etc. and thus help keep shoulder stability.
I don't recall doing anything and thinking man that hurt. I have done the tests they recommend and only about 1/2 of them measure any signs. I can still workout, although there is some pain and a little weakness. Most of the issues come from incline dumbbell press. It is really hard to determine the severity since I get shoulder pain and tendinitis all the time.
I know without an MRI I will not know for sure; but don't have time for that right now. Have taken 5 days off from the gym and trying to use the shoulder as little as possible. Any of you LR docs got ideas.

I have had both of my shoulders operated on. My doctor told me do not do the bench press, if I felt I had to do an incline bench with dumbbells, just like you. Given your circumstances, I would eliminate that from your work out. Above all, he told me, if you can’t see your hands don’t do it .....no pull downs behind your head etc. nothing where you can’t see your hands... The shoulder is the most sophisticated joint in the body, much more so than the knee. Best to change your workout ASAP

Thanks and I did most of that 20 years ago when I moved to dumbbells. I will try some different things on Monday. I really don't want a fifth Shoulder surgery.

Good luck. I just had a weird pain when throwing, 4 months of rest it finally has gone away. Don't think it was rotator cuff, my understanding is that will not heal itself. Hopefully you just pulled / strained something. Do you know of a specific event when it started hurting or has just always hurt (hence other surgeries)?

Physical therapist told me never do any weights where arms go above parallel with shoulders. That helped me.

Nothing I remember doing; that is what is weird. All my internet doctor research (yea never a good idea) says you can have a partial tear which will heal over time with the correct treatment. My understanding is a full tear I would know about; because shoulder use would be drastically reduced. I did some really light weights in the hotel gym last night just to see what it felt like and the pain and weakness was there when I did certain exercises with significantly less weights than my normal workout. I can hopefully see a doc next week; but I am not hopeful after last night.
