How do you tell your sales manager to stay out of your accounts because of appearance?

We just hired this guy, he is the friend of the COO, and he is unkept, smells of cigarettes and cheap cologne. I have busted my rear to build relationships, as we are a start up, and this guy wants to go into my accounts to see if he can help push it along. My fear is he will set it back and create a steeper uphill climb for me.

Can't wait to hear what the LR has to say!

just say you guys have a great relationship, you talk about things that are outside of work, if he were to come the client might get a bad vibe. Then follow with a, "let's hold off on you coming until there is a situation where you can come in and be the hero so to speak."

Just find some appointments that you don't care that much about and bring him on those. I'm certain not all of your clients/prospects are A-level.

Play up the relationship aspect of it. Explain that they have evolved into friends rather than simply clients and that you want to keep it that way. In the alternative, tell him he's a stud and that you are threatened by his preternatural good looks.

Tell him to take his Lumberg, micromanaging ass elsewhere and then give him a swift kick to the nuts.

This, homie. If you make it rain, you can tell anyone to go f- a tailpipe.

This. If you are a star, the COO won't let his "friendship" with this bozo interfere with everyone making money. Make sure you are as good as you think you are before staking out any position that is too harsh. When you are really good, you can get away with plenty. Good luck.

If he shows with hoes and blow, you may have to go....
Learn from the guy. Respect his years in the trenches. Find out what makes him tick. Chicks probably love him.
