I read people talking about the schedule on these boards and it seems to me that most of us aren't completely aware of exactly how the schedule gets made. I had a long conversation some time ago with someone high up on our organization and this is the impression I was given:

Monk Bonasorte does most of the legwork for the scheduling. Everything must be approved by Wilcox and Jimbo has a very strong influence. Generally speaking, Jimbo has to approve the schedule. The scheduling of the Ole Miss game is an example of a game that got scheduled without Jimbo's approval and it might well be the only example.

FSU built it's program scheduling big time programs from all over the country. It was a necessity and we seldom got to see those big boys at Doak, but we continued to schedule them after we joined the ACC and we did eventually get to see the likes of USC, Michigan State, BYU, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma in Tally (yes, I know we played Oklahoma and had West Virginia scheduled during Jimbo's time, but those games were scheduled by Bowden).

For whatever reason, Jimbo publicly stated that this would no longer be necessary and our AD at the time scheduled accordingly. Like many things we have done since Jimbo took over, this was an example of doing things like Bama did things. An embarrassing number of empty seats prompted our admin to vow improvement and we got Boise State and USF. We also got a new AD.

To date, we have not improved our home and away scheduling of out of conference games. What we have done is schedule some neutral site games as kickoff classics. Oklahoma State last year and Ole Miss next year. Again, this is the way that Bama did it. There have been rumors that we'll play Bama in 2017 in another neutral site kickoff classic, but nothing has been finalized yet.

If someone has more insight on this please illuminate us.
