Operation BBQ Relief will be deploying to feed those in need in the aftermath of hurricane Michael. This location will be in the Tallahassee area. A second location is planned near Panama City. Please DO NOT sign up for both locations; pick one location only to avoid causing logistical issues. We are now staging equipment in preparation for deployment and are in need of volunteer registrations so that we can hit the ground running fully staffed potentially as early as Friday, 10/12.
The shifts are defined below. Volunteers are expected to arrive by the start of their shift and work the full shift so that we can plan accordingly for capacity needs. Morning (AM) Shift: 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM Afternoon (PM) Shift: 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM Please be safe if you live in or are visiting the area in the coming days. Under no circumstance should anyone self-deploy to any OBR location. Once you register for this deployment you will be contacted as the deployment nears. It may be a couple days before you hear back as we are busy with logistics to make this happen but rest assured that if you successfully registered for the deployment then we do know about you. Please also be flexible and patient as the deployment start could be delayed if it is not safe to enter the area. You will receive specific deployment details including site address when you are deployed and receive your confirmation email.
Additional asks: 1) Large Capacity Cookers: If you have a large capacity smoker (can take at least 50 pork butts minimum) that is propane fired and you'd be willing to bring it for use please send e-mail to volunteer@obr.org and specify the type, capacity, and which deployment location. 2) Camp Chef: We are looking for folks that have self contained catering rigs and/or mobile kitchens who can deploy for at least three (but preferably five or more) days to function as a camp chef onsite to feed onsite volunteers. This is a critical role onsite to keep the operation running smoothly. All food and cooking costs will be covered by OBR but the role itself is a volunteer position. If you have that rig and time, please send e-mail to volunteer@obr.org with details on your rig, which location, and all available dates. The longer the better to minimize turnover mid-deployment..
