Three national records were broken by members of the Florida State swimming and diving team as selected Seminoles competed at three meets across the world this week.

Junior Max Wilson broke two national records for the U.S. Virgin Islands and senior Gloria Muzito set one individual national record for Uganda at the 2024 World Aquatics Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary, from December 10-14.

Wilson’s first record was in the 100-meter (SCM) backstroke, with a time of 51.37. Two days later, he broke another U.S. Virgin Islands national mark in the 50-meter backstroke thanks to a finish of 23.81 seconds.

Muzito’s Uganda record came in the 100-meter freestyle, as she touched the wall in 54.45. Muzito also helped her relay teams to an African national record of 4:06.20 in the mixed 4x100 medley relay, and a Uganda record of 1:36.00 in the mixed 4x50 freestyle relay. She added another PR in the mixed 4x50 medley relay with a finish of 1:49.23.

Meanwhile, six Seminole divers competed at the USA Diving Winter Nationals in Bloomington, Indiana, from December 13-15.

Graduate student Samantha Vear advanced to the finals in two events and earned a pair of top-10 finishes. She was seventh on 1-meter with 471.75 points and 10th on 3-meter with a score of 488.20. Redshirt junior Kayleigh Clark earned the team’s best finish of the weekend, as she was sixth in the 10-meter final thanks to a score of 519.60.

Senior Isabel Gregersen finished 16th in the 10-meter prelims with a mark of 206.30. Freshman Noah Turner was 18th on 10-meter (270.90) and 32nd on 3-meter (213.40). As FSU begins its week-long training trip in South Florida, four women raced at the CSCAA College National Open Water Championship in Miami on December 15. FSU finished ninth out of 19 teams in the women’s 5-kilometer event.

Senior Ella Dyjak paced the team with a 15th-place finish thanks to a time of 1:07:26.92. Sophomore Gabrielle Goodwin was 31st overall in 1:09:39.67, followed by senior Maddy Huggins (68th, 1:12:44.53) and sophomore Cadence Fort (69th, 1:12:56.41).
