Shooting at the Capital Gazette Newspaper with multiple fatalities

Is it bad that I thought at least it was only 5? What actually can be done?

I was being facetious with the “nothing”, but I do think the answer is nothing WILL be done as long as unlimited money is allowed from corporate sources. A lot of our current ills stem from a terrible SCOTUS decision that allows unlimited shadowy money in the political process. Everything from the Russian rigging of our election (when money is deemed as “speech”...well we’re finding out that other countries have money including our enemies), to the ransacking of the EPA to the standstill on gun control when the majority of Americans want it all stem from this same problem. And I don’t see anything changing that soon.

Wonder what antidepressant he was on...

Could be although now they are saying facial id software has him at 39 not 20s. He apparently melted his fingertips, carries no id and is refusing to cooperate....yet he wussed out and allowed himself to be captured.

'Fake News' retaliation?

The news media certainly seems to calibrate its coverage based on the number of dead bodies. On the one hand, I understand that. But I think it helps explain why you have the feelings mentioned in your first question above.

So if Cuomo Primetime is right, the shooter had filed a defamation suit against the newspaper which had been tossed out by the court in 2012. Allegedly, he stalked the office looking for specific people to murder.

“A Laurel man with a long-running feud with the Annapolis Capital is being held as the suspect in the deadly shooting at the newspaper Thursday, according to law enforcement sources.

Police and federal agents gathered late Thursday outside the address of 38-year-old Jarrod W. Ramos. Rich McLaughlin, the chief of the Laurel police department, said his officers were there as part of the investigation into the shooting at the newspaper, and other sources identified Ramos as the suspect.

In 2012, Ramos filed a defamation lawsuit against the paper and a columnist over a July 2011 story that covered a criminal harassment case against him.

He brought the suit against the columnist, Eric Hartley, naming Capital Gazette Communications and Thomas Marquardt, the paper’s former editor and publisher, as defendants.

A Twitter page in Ramos’ name on Thursday featured Hartley’s picture as its avatar, and a banner image included photographs of Marquardt and the Capital’s former owner Philip Merrill.

The page’s bio read: “Dear reader: I created this page to defend myself. Now I'm suing the s--- out of half of AA County and making corpses of corrupt careers and corporate entities.”

The account regularly commented on Anne Arundel County news and referenced a deadly shooting at French newspaper in 2015.

The account had been dormant since January 2016. Then at 2:37 p.m. Thursday — moments before the Capital shooting — the account posted a message that read: “F--- you, leave me alone.”

A shooting has occurred at the Capital Gazette in Anne Arundel County, a paper that is owned by The Baltimore Sun, according to reports from Gazette staff.”

So before you say it was just a guy with a personal vendetta...apparently part of that personal vendetta was because an Asian American female journalist blocked him for using fake “Chinese insults” at her and because an article cited it without mentioning him by name.

And here was the article

http://www.capitalgazette.com/news/...0704-story,amp.html?__twitter_impression=true

“Blend in and move on, I told myself.

But not this week. This week, someone on a social media website sent me threatening insults with made-up Chinese words. Something about my "guan-yin dang" face. I can't translate that for you.”

Btw the pic on his twitter handle is not of the shooter but one of his targets.

“The Annapolis, Maryland, gunman who opened fire at the offices of the Capital and Gazette local newspapers there killing five people has been named as 38-year-old Anne Arundel County resident Jarrod Ramos, according to reports by NBC News on Thursday evening. Court documents posted online show that Ramos sued a staff writer at the newspaper, Eric Thomas Hartley, in 2013. Ramos in the lawsuit claimed that Hartley had defamed him in an article for the The Capitalnewspaper.

Disturbingly, Ramos had a Twitter account in his own name, but which used a photo of Hartley rather than a photo of himself.

The article said that in 2011 Ramos had undertaken a year-long campaign of stalking and harassing a woman he had known in high school, but with whom he had recently reconnected via Facebook, according to the article which was reproduced in the court documents.

Ramos was also apparently a supporter of Donald Trump, appearing in one Twitter post to threaten the newspaper that referring to Trump as “unqualified” could “end badly” for the paper, according to Casey Michel, a reporter for the Think Progress site.

The article, which said that Ramos was “a federal employee” also said that he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor harassment charge. Information posted by a Twitter user showing Ramos’s booking photo from the Anne Arundel police department can be seen below on this page.”

I went to Plantation high school with Rob Hiaasen and I just had to tell my sister he died in the shooting. She was a good friend of his. Rob and his family live very near my sister's best friend's family. Rob was a good man.

I'm now getting a ton of recent pictures of his family from my sister.....he just celebrated his 33rd wedding anniversary last Friday...

This Blows....

Here's an old picture that more resembles how I remember him..

“He waged a one-person attack on anything he could muster in court against the Capital,” Tom Marquardt, a former editor and publisher of the Capital, told the Los Angeles Times. “I said during that time, ‘This guy is crazy enough to come in and blow us all away.’”

Guy who sued paper for defamation (without using a lawyer?) tweets same paper they might be sued for defamation by a guy who sued Univision for $500 million dollars for defamation.
Literally his only reference, and this makes him 'apparently a supporter'?
I'm sure he wished a billionaire would sue the paper he hated, but this is what people mean by fake news.

Yes it does. This is clearly in support of Trump because he’s clearly stating Trump was qualified to be president and the newspaper was wrong to opine otherwise. There’s no other way to read it.

You can minimise it by saying there’s no evidence as of yet on day one that he did any other type of support, but that is very clearly support.

Based on this loon’s lawsuit he thinks if a paper says something unfavorable about a person that person can sue. Am I correct he couldn’t find a lawyer for his own case?
Then he sees the paper that he thinks denigrated him make a negative comment about a dude with pockets and propensity to sue. I’m sure he wished Trump would sue them and cost them money (since he’s literally citing a WSJ about Trump suing for defamation), but without your Trump preoccupation I’m hard pressed to see how this can be twisted into ‘support’ for Trump in any regard.

Who cares if he supported Trump? If he did or didn't, not every, not even a majority of Trump supporter supports or would do this act. Just like every, or even a majority of Bernie Sanders supporters approves or will go shoot Republicans in Congress practicing for a baseball game.

I understand no one is directly saying that. But it is certainly mentioned to insinuate it.
